Description:Superb 4-element parfocal, multi-coated eyepieces of the classical Plössl design, perfectly suited to any observing application. The very latest in eyepieces from Meade optical designers, Meade Series 3000™ Plössls are available in a wide range of focal lengths from 5mm through 40mm and yield the finest image corrections obtainable from the classical Plössl design. All five Series 3000™ Plössls from 5mm through 25mm are parfocal, so that, at most, only slight refocusing of the image is required when switching from one eyepiece to another.

Unlike competing moderately-priced Plössls, Meade Series 3000™ Plössls are multi-coated for maximum light transmission and image contrast. Chrome-plated brass barrels are threaded for standard filters. Upper eyepiece sections are of gleaming black-anodized aluminum. All focal lengths include rubber eyecups.

Use the PL5mm and 6.7mm oculars for high-power observations of the Moon and planets, or for splitting close doubles. The PL9.5mm, an excellent moderately-high magnification eyepiece, is useful for more extended objects, such as globular clusters, that require magnification to be well-resolved. The medium-power PL16mm yields, for example, a power of 125X and actual field of 0.40° in an 8" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain–an ideal combination for observing structural detail in the Orion Nebula (M42), the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), and other large objects. For general-purpose observing of the total range of astronomical objects, the PL25mm provides low-power images high in contrast and sharp to the field edge. All Series 3000™ Plössls also function well when used with a quality Barlow lens.

Manufactured to exclusive Meade optical designs by a leading lensmaker, Series 3000™ Plössl
eyepieces produce excellent results on telescopes of all types, from Schmidt-Cassegrains to
reflectors and refractors.

Series 3000™ Plössl 40mm (1.25"): A perfect complement to the Series 3000™ Plössls above, this Plössl 40mm yields spectacular, low-power, wide-field results with any telescope. Manufactured to the classical Plössl 4-element design, the PL40mm produces, for example, a power of 50X and actual field of 0.88°, almost two Moon-diameters, with an 8" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain. The chrome-plated brass barrel is threaded for filters.

Specifications of the Meade Series 3000™ Plössls:

Meade Series 3000 Plossl 40mm
I use my 40mm on my 12"lx200 and really like it.I'm no optics pro but it is usually the first ep I reach for,and that says I must enjoy it's views.I use it far more than my super26mm.It was quite a bargain. The dealer I worked with was honest enough to recommend it over the more expensive series 4000 40mm.Very good value in my opinion.

Meade Series 3000 Plossl 40mm
I have one of the older 40 mm with no eyecup I found it hard to use at first but just go out and buy a plastic eye cup from Orion (not the wing one )After that this eyepiece is a joy to use.And is infact one of the finest eyepieces I have ever owned.A reel steel for the price.Open star clusters and Large nebula are very crisp to look at.Just get it.

Meade Series 3000 Plossl 40mm
Nice, contrasty views. Too bad that you can't get very much true FOV in a 1.25" eyepiece. You would be better off getting a 32mm EP in 1.25". Such as the 1.25" University Optics Konig 32mm.

Meade Series 3000 Plossl 40mm
I tested this lens for a short period on a Chinese made 80/400mm.
Some kidney bean and a general swimming feeling, lik you get in most 40mm's.
Nice lens in it's class and as good as the 4000 series.

Meade Series 3000 Plossl 40mm
Not up to the standard of Celestron's Ultimas - especially the 30mm, which I also have. Someone once said of the Meade 40mm that it was like looking down a drain pipe - I can see what they meant. Still, it's a very good price - but it does not spend too much time in my eyepiece box.
