Description:These fine 3-element eyepieces offer the price-conscious amateur an excellent alternative to more sophisticated and expensive oculars. The four Modified Achromatic focal lengths shown here are an optical advancement over the traditional Kellner and yield sharp, faithful lunar, planetary, and deep-space images. All 1.25" O.D. focal lengths are multi-coated; eyepieces of .965" O.D. are coated with magnesium fluoride (MgF2). The 40mm models of both barrel diameters provide well-corrected, wide-field images on any instrument, and with a moderate investment.

I have used a lot of eyepieces and have to say this one was my least favorite. It came with my first telescope and I quickly upgraded to an S4000 9.7mm SuperPlossl. There was no contest in performance. Avoid these MA eyepieces, as your budding interest in this hobby will not be nutured by using equipment of this quality.

Meade Modified Achromat 9mm
Soft images when barlowed 2x (fuzzy)
Nice blue ring (but very faint though) around what you are viewing. Overall quality is not too bad.

I use one on my 4.5" reflector, and it seems to be low quality. I can only see 3 cloud belts and the polar regions on Jupiter, and I know I should be able to see more than that. I use it on bright DSO's like M57, and it does so-so.

How good is your telescope?I use this eyepiece on my NGC-60 and see about the same view of Jupiter.

Decent eyepiece quality. However, I would definately upgrade this focal length immediately. I am not fond of the cheap blue cement ring at the edge of view and it's hard for me to view through. Have not compared to other cheap eyepieces at this focal length, but I assume the price that Meade sells this one at is way too much (less than 40 dollars).

Better than a cheap .965, but one of the worst I've seen in 1.25 barrel. Recommend only for long (f/15) focus refractors. Don't even think about using this eyepiece in short (f/6) instruments.

As much as i have tried to find fault with these lowly kellners, i just can't. I have the 25 and 9mm versions and both perform well and don't have significant problems with clarity or edge sharpness. These eyepieces have obviously been developed and represent a decent buy, however there are other eyepieces that may outperform these at similar prices. The 9 mm performs well with my f8 6" Dob. I don't know what limitations a smaller focal length would have. Contrary to earlier reports, i have no problem fitting filters in any of my Meade eyepieces.

Owned it for about two years. It is pretty much a terrible eyepiece. I used it with an 8" sct. The images were fuzzy and hard to focus. I bought a Televue 8mm plossl to replace it and the images were a hundred times better. I would never recommend this eyepiece.
