Description:This older baby-blue scope is a real light bucket. I got mine for $350 locally from the first owner who'd carried it all over the west since new. The only complaint I have about the scope is the inability to rotate the tube.

I'll have more of a report later, but my plans for this scope include a new hardwood (red oak) mount and a new guide scope to replace the old Deitz the

previous owner had on it.

Great clarity, sharpness and width of field.

Original owner - good optics, basic EQ mount. Low height often awkward, but very sturdy. Fits easily in most cars . Weird 2-vane spider is weakness in getting optics well aligned. When properly collimated it really performs. Best with very high quality eyepieces due to f/4.5 optics.

Nice optics, ok focuser, almost impossible to adjust easily mount, mount does move very smoothly and easily after lubrication.
Very easy to setup. Think of it as a Dob that tracks. Too low to
the ground, tho it is stable. No tube rings make observing a hands and knees affair. Still, quite nice optics...

I got mine for $250 8-)

My star tests have shown a bit of spherical abberation which places a fairly significant restraint on high-power operation (no more than 300 - 350x). Of course, that's not what this scope was designed for. With regard to its designed purpose, deep sky and wide field viewing are excellent. There is a fair amount of slop in the clock drive, but with a little practice, getting objects centered for tracking is pretty simple at low to medium powers. Mount is stable but not easily levelled. Overall a good scope and a decent value.

The Meade DS-10 is my first "real" telescope. I bought it used about 2 years ago for $500. The striking quality of the scope is it's weight. I have since added tube rings to allow the tube to rotate (BIG improvement!), a two-inch focuser, a telrad and an 9x60 right-angle finder. The mount was in fair condition and I had to jam a couple of washers into the fixed altitude adjustment to firm it up. However, once I did that, the mount improved incredibly. As far as the optics, once cleaned, they were quite nice. Although I do not have alot to compare it to, I am pleased with the scope. Every night I take it out I get a little better at alignment, tracking, etc.

Pros are LARGE aperture, solid mount (with modification), and fairly easy collimation. Cons are weight & portability, the AC drive which must be plugged into the wall (!) and the stock focuser and finder.

Overall, a great piece of equipment for the price

My listing above. If I could rotate the tube, it'd be a 10. The OTA can be packed in the cab of my 4-door Ranger, the EQ is easily lifted into the bed, and
viewing is facilitated by the low profile on the pedestal mount.
