Meade 2080 8" SCT
Have owned this scope for over 15 years. Optics have held up, however there is some softness in focus, even after careful collumation. The field tripod is one of the outstanding features, as well as the fork-mount and PPEC drive. Have replaced all of the original attachment bolts due to broken plastic and rusted threads. That is why I have given the mount rating a 6. This scope cost $3,795, when purchased with dew shield and 3 additional eypieces in 1986. It is still being used with pleasure and deserves a 9-rating in value.

Great scope even with the AC drive. Impecable optics, good solid mount. I added a Antares 8X50 finder and a Telrad. The motor is quiet and the worm drive has no play after all these years. I also added the azimuth adjusterfrom the LX200. I will pass this down to my son for sure.

Scope initially needed some remachining of one of the scope arms to
make optical and geometric axes co-incident... Once this was done, the scope
proved to be excellent in following stability and fits well into one of thr

Meade 2080 8" SCT
This is an older Meade (1981) scope. I bought it used. The scope has excellent optics and passes the star test without any problems. The HD field tripod and mount are massive. There is hardly any (if at all) vibration during scope use. I tested the scope/mount/tripod right before an on-coming thunder storm. The system worked well, but I finally found scope vibration in 10 knot winds. The scope craftsmanship is outstanding! The RA motor works quietly and stays on track with very little correction. On the adverse side was the AC powered RA motor. There is a 12V dc inverter for the car to scope which makes life easier. OVERALL IF A SOMEONE IS LOOKING FOR A USED 8"SCT - THE 2080 IS A GREAT WELL BUILT SCOPE!

Meade 2080 8" SCT
I have now had a Meade SCT 2080 with RA/DA motors and surprising enough almost 15 years later and it is still running beautifully. This telescope was purchased shortly before my getting married and has been running neck and neck with my wife. My wife has even become and avid user of the scope at star parties. If all goes well I will hand this telescope down to my daughter one day.
