Magic Knight Rayearth TV
Magic Knight Rayearth is definitly one of CLAMP's best. The animation is beautiful, CLAMP did a really good job drawing this. The plot is very unique, the characters really go well together. The songs are great, and it's easy to understand the lyrics. HOLD OOOONNN TOOO THAT DRREEAA........eh.... I'll stop singing now(sweat drops). The humor is good, and it's so cute the way they go SD all the time. Overall this show is sooo fantastic (it is CLAMP after all ).

Magic Knight Rayearth TV
It's so girlie
It's so action-packed
It's so unlike other magical girl series, because it has lots of blood.
It's got Nova, Anime's definative psycho-bitch-from-hell.

I really like this series.

And I agree with the last person who voted. More Umi in Chizeta garb.

[webmaster note: ****Spoilers****]

Sort of overated but never less is a good
anime. Even though I absolutly LOVE Eagle
I'm not going to give this anime a 10.
(even though I really am tempted to.)
I, personally liked the manga better. Eagle
doesn't die in it for one and #2 it has more
of a plot.

I thought the first series was "Great" but
I didn't really like the second one so much though.

Overall I give this a 7.

All I gotta say is Nova is the definative anime psycho bitch from hell. I love the counterpoint of the whole show in the first season. It's loaded to the brim with nauseating girlie female bonding, while at the same time it's filled to the brim with insane sword action sequences, and quality RPG parody. The first season ends, and the joke's on you. The second season begins, and now the real fun starts. Jumping from place to place cultre to cultre and character to character is a crazy fun ride, especialy when you considder the social commentary (Autozam=America, Chizeta=India/mid-east Farhen=China) After seeing the episode where Umi battles tatra and tarta I can tell you where they prbably got the inspiration for 90% of Utena. Anyway one final thing. The magic knights look ok in their school outfits, better in their final level magic knight armor, but THE BEST when their dressed in their respective coutries garb, I want more of Umi in Chizeta wardrobe, dammit.

I liked the first chapter, but I can't say this is a great series. The characters are boring -- I have seen eighteen different characters in other anime series that are EXACTLY like Umi.

This anime resembles Slayers in that it involves an RPG-like setting, but Slayers have far more interesting characters.. and besides, Slayers is actually funny.

It also reminds me of Escaflowne -- knights, a mystery land and uniquely designed mechas -- but is FAR inferior to Escaflowne, which actually makes you think beyond the juvenile excitement of the anime itself and about the real life's deeper topics.

The only thing I liked about this anime (and I liked VERY much) was how the plot picked up the pace towards the end and into the ironic conclusion. I have to admit that it kept me on my toes for most of the last 5-6 episodes -- something I thought no other anime would do to me after watching the end of Slayers Next. And I really liked the ending theme.

The anime was excellent, both the quality of the rendition and the
moral message of the story. The story itself develops cleverly and
very correlated, in which NO ONE will know and will be surprised
by the reversed ending..
Too bad, that the consistency of the graphics was a little bit
declining in the 2nd story (after Princess Emeraude and Zagard died..
the Cephiro was vulnerable and invaded by other tribes from outer space..)
NOW, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO MOCONA REALLY IS?
(he's actually the one who's really "powerful and controlling" in the
story... Just see until 2nd and 3rd story...

Magic Knight Rayearth TV
If "Vision of Escaflowne" had a sense of humor ... it'd be Magic Knights Rayearth. This show is a definite feel-good work, what with the moralizing about friendship and lots of super-deformity. Perhaps one of its most overlooked strengths is the music -- great theme songs, great orchestral score. A little bit too repetitive sometimes, though -- after a while some of the fighting music gets annoying. But one can never get enough of "Yuzurenai Negai."
Rayearth is certainly a welcome break from the usual anal-retentive, overly serious moods of so much fantasy anime. The occasional references to role-playing games are quite clever. The creators know that this has all been done before, so why not take it with a pinch of salt? Let's face it, the magical girl and medieval battle genres have all been done to death, so there's no point in trying to reinvent the wheel. Yes, much of the plot and the endings were cliche, but that's only because it would take a genius or a maniac to write an anime series that's totally out-of-the-box. (And who would watch something like that anyway, since such a series would obviously be near-impossible to understand?)

MKR has all the elements to be one of the better anime series out there: Cool characters, excellent artwork, those mechas were cool, a fantasy world, a 2 part story, etc. But, to be honest, it is one of the emptiest anime I have ever seen, because it is a rude compilation of pieces of a good anime, intended more for a female audience. The result: a cliched version of a Fantasy set adventure, with a lot of wannabe-anime scenes.
In the 80´s anime break in the US and the occidental world with its different conceptions of the universe with more than inspired authors, who were always looking to do something different and original. It was a golden age, followed by the artistic improving of the artwork in the early 90´s. Since then, there has been a lot of cliched anime, and that is the kind of thing that is going to kill the anime spark that´s in everyone of us. Don´t get me wrong, there were a couple of new ideas in MKR; its just that at the end they were so simple and stupid, that they could easily come from the inspiration of a have-20-non-stop-years-watching-tv- girl.
