Losmandy G-11
A big strong mount perfectly capable of handling a C14 for visual use, even in a strong breeze keeps on ticking when similar aperture dobs are forced to shut down. For imagers the post 2001 vintage G11s are reportedly excellent (with the new worm gear) but earlier versions may need the worm upgrade which costs about $50 to do RA and Dec. It certainly is the best "performance mount" out there in this price range. As of late 2005 polar scopes are available with reticle markings for Polaris' location that are good from 2003 to 2030. The previous generation reticle expires in 2010. Performs without flinching in sub-zero (F) temperatures.

For people using older G11s, swapping out the Hurst motors for SAIA is highly recommended: reduces stepper vibration so you don't see it on planets a higher magnifications. The aftermarket is providing new alternatives such as the Berlebach wood tripod with a Losmandy adapter. The default CNC aluminum tripod is robust and inexpensive, but the wood tripod is a nice upgrade for cold weather and a bit easier to set up and adjust.

I use this mount with my Celestron 9.25. This mount is rock solid, even under breezy conditions. I have had people bump or kick the tripod legs while I was at the eyepiece, and it scarcely even causes a vibration.

This is a really beefy mount that even makes my 9.25" look a bit small. And it's heavy. It's not exactly easy to store or transport. I put mine into a large tool chest which I keep permanently strapped to a hand truck to wheel it out to the back yard or whevever.

I purchased a used G-11 mount as a back up for my 1200 mount(for one-nighters). The machine work is top notch, and tracking is very good. It normally carries the FSQ106 or a 5" 8.35 AP.with mounting plates for guide scopes or cameras. Setting up is a breeze and as I stated the tracking is very good,so good I have not needed to use the PEC (which would probably even make guiding easier). In its price range from 1 to 10 - it's a 10 with me.Thank you Joseph Macrie

Losmandy G-11
Great mount! I purchased mine from anacortes and it arrived promptly from
Losmandy within a few days. I have found the construction to be
robust and everything works well. I have mounted my Celestron
9.25 SCT and find that I can ignore wind even when the tripod is
high. For improvements I have added motor covers and clutch
knobs. I plan to upgrade to the Gemini system soon but for now
I could not be more pleased. I rate the mount a 9 because it
does everything you are told but to get a 10 I would like to
see a easier and firmer tripod leg attachment as well as a
better/tighter head to tripod attachment.
