Leica Trinovid 12x50 BN
At first I got a 10x version. However, it had optical defects so I replaced it with 12x model with additional cost. If a binoc is the second best in most aspects, it has a good chance to be the best overall.

To start with, it provides easy, comfortable and transparent view, just like the famous Zeiss 7x42 ClassiC .Zeiss is lighter and more easy to hold, but not waterproof! Moreover, the rubber eyecup is out-dated.

The Fujinon FMT 7x50, on the other hand, is too bulky and heavy to use. Moreover, I experience eyestrain easier in Fujinon's. Optically, the Fuji's is very bright and the color rendition is very good. Leica is bright for the power but dimmer then Fuji. This is expected, as the Fuji's has the largest exit pupil. However, I and the Fujinon owner still prefer the Leica and Zeiss views. For one thing, the views are easier and more relax. For another thing, the Fuji's field of view is too small: 52.5 degrees compared to Leica's 68 degrees. Looking through the Leica's just likes looking at the window whereas looking through the Fuji's just likes looking through a straw tube! Last but not the least, I can see a perfect cirle when viewing through Zeiss' or Leica's but not the Fuji's.

However, the 12x50 BN model also has several disadvantages:
1. The power is very high for hand-hold. But it can't be tripod mounted.
2. It is too heavy for children.
3. The focus range is too short for eyeglass wearers. If you are short sighted, you have to wear glasses when viewing infinity.
4. The price is too high. It is a life-time purchase.

If you can't justify the cost, I will suggest you to look for the Olympus new offering: EXWPI model. For US200 you can buy a ligth weighed waterproof phase coated roof!

Leica triopd adapter is available now.

My Leica 12X50 BNs come close to perfection in many ways. I use them almost entirely for astronomy, so I always tripod mount them for use (yes, the tripod adapter is available and way better than the ubiquitous L mount). Otherwise, the weight would be too much to handhold for that purpose. The Leica quality is exactly what you wish you had in all your favorite astro products. They are simply a delight to look at as well as look through. I replaced an excellent pair of Canon 15X50 IS binos with these. I really liked the Canons, but the weight made tripod mounting necessary for extended astro use, so I figured if I were going to use a tripod anyway, why not get the best optics I could in this size range? The Leica's are simply superb optically and mechanically. That and the warranty is unbelievable--a lifetime limited warranty with a no-fault warranty the first three years. During the first three years, you could drop these from your third floor balconey onto the pavement, sweep up the pieces, send them back to Leica and get a new pair. What a deal! Expensive, but they are arguably the best 50mm binos in the universe.
