Jin-roh
Excellent movie, one that both anime fans and non anime fans will enjoy. I would rank it among Evangelion, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Wings of Honneamise, just to name a few. I went out on a limb and purchased the collecters edition. I'm Glad I did, well worth the money for a show of this calibur. Definately a must see.

This is definitely a new masterpiece of the anime genre. I've seen many excellent animes, and this is one of the most complex and thought-provoking. Director Hiroyuki Okiura's penchant for realism shows clearly in this VERY serious movie. The whole atmosphere is very dark and the plot, if you're attentive enough to grasp it all, will blow you away. Not to mention the ending which is original and heart-breakingly tragic.

The story is set in Japan, in an alternate past. Rising civil unrest had given birth to a special unit of heavily-armored cop/soldiers trained to fight the Sect, the terrorist group behind the riots and urban chaos. But now, years later, those two enemies have been left behind by the times. With their reason for existence gone, the only way to survive seen by the leaders of the special forces is to integrate with the regular police forces. However, this is made impossible by the existence of a sub-unit of the special forces, a kind of black ops unit which is deemed undesirable by the police officials. So a conspiracy is set in motion to discredit this "Wolf Brigade". But a rumored counter-intelligence vigilante group is watching from the shadows.

At the center of this great struggle, Fuse (pronounce Fu-say) is a soldier of the Wolf Brigade who failed to kill a young terrorist girl before she blew herself up. As he grapples with the implications of such fanaticism, he meets the girl's sister. These two pawns of opposed factions end up unwittingly falling in love. This love story is described throughout the movie with the use of an extremely original angle: the story of the little red riding hood. And does it work! You simply have GOT to see it to believe how seamlessly that "children's" story is interwoven and interconnected with the love story of the two main characters. And true to the mood of Jin-roh, this version of little red riding hood is quite darker than the fairy tale we're all used to. [ Minor spoiler/hint: "Jin-roh" means "Wolf Brigade" and the terrorists they fight use girls code-named "little red riding hoods" to distribute explosives... subtle, ne? :-) ]

And then of course I have to mention the quality of this movie's visuals which are just as flawless as its story. The animation has the smoothness that we've come to expect from high-quality anime and the art perfectly works to draw the viewer deep into this movie's world. Some action sequences can only be described as chilling. Those soldiers are not described as "heavily-armored" for nothing. Watching them in action... they are portrayed so realistically that all the movements they make bring words like "deadly" and "dangerous" to mind. They feel like a pack of ravening wolves (again, the wolf theme) under a human veneer. They feel like the kind of merciless soldiers who would wipe out whole populations if ordered to; "It's nothing personal..." They chilled me to the depths of my soul.

An absolute must-see movie if you're not put off by complex plots.

I would agree that this is a movie that stands on its own when compared to live action films... the visuals are stunning and so is the sound. 

However it deals with adult subject matter (such as war, politics, psychology and violence) which probably won't be understood by a young audience. I think that if you don't understand what the story is about then this film could come across as glamourising and mystifying violence.

it's an awsome movie! i watch it when i can, even if it means watching it 5 times a night! I just love the armour and plot and everything about the movie! yes that means i like the gore. i'm use to it, i watch R movies with my mom. ^_^

Just incredible. On of the top 10 anime movies of all time. Needs to be seen in a movie house to be apprciated.

One of the most impressing anime's i have ever seen.
the characters are superb, the animation was outstanding and ............i really don't know the words to discribe this movie
It is something you have to experience.
If you ever get the chance to see it , take it (i sure would!!!!!)
