I picked this scope up becouse I wanted a good performer without having to drag my 10" around. Well to my suprise this scope outperforms my (M) 10" SCT.at 1/4 the bulk. Immage quality is sharper w/ better contrast, and, every bit as bright. I can see more plantary detail with this scope than I ever have previously and deep space objects are better defined due to the increased contrast. Optical quality is fantastic. The fit and finish is good but could be better. Focus mec. is quite good also. I like the design which will allow the tinkering type a multitude of opertunity to work with. Scope could use a cooling fan (included on the delux version). I would highly recomend this scope to anyone looking in this catagory.

Superb optics and mechanics. Forget any C-8 or Meade 8". I also use high quality APO's (Zeiss APQ and TAK FCT and FS) but planetary details are not far away from this high-end APO's. The one I own has a near perfect star test ~1/8. If you think about buying a C-8 or equal don't do it!

A superb, portable Mak-Cass. I have mine mounted on a GP-DX with Sky Sensor. The views are sharper across whole field and the contrast is much better than my previous scope, a C8, esp. on DSOs. Stars have faint diffraction ring. No planets yet to try it against.

The fit and finish is quite good but not perfect. There was some dust on the inside of the corrector lens. The OTA tube has a solid construction to it and is painted off-white. The focuser could be a little smoother, however, there is zero image shift! Wonderful! Collimation is achieved through three sets of pull-push screws on the secondary - a chore to adjust. On the upside, it has kept its collimation perfectly since then. A 12x55 finder is included but I don't use it as I love my star pointer. It comes with a 1.25" mirror diagonal which I replaced with an Antares 2" diagonal. Cool down time is about 1 - 1.5 hrs.

Overall, a great scope. 10 for optics and an 8 for accessories/fit and finish - a solid 9 overall.
