Harry Siebert Optics Standard 12.5mm
Outstanding planetary eyepiece. Nice and sharp all the way to the edges. I also use this eyepiece on globular clusters. If you want an outstanding planetary eyepiece, than get one.

I've been using my Siebert 12.5 for several months now. This is a very nice eyepiece. No color, sharp and clear right to the edge. Does very well when used with a barlow. Definitely outperforms the eyepieces that came with my Orion 8" SVD. Additionally, Harry Siebert is a pleasure to do business with. I highly recommend this product.

I am using this eyepiece on a f5.4 TeleVue Genesis SDF and when I asked Harry Siebert which one of his eyepieces he suggested for a wide field scope like mine, the 12.5 was *not* one of them. I bought one anyway :) One of the reasons I think he did not include it in his list for fast scopes is probably related to my only real complaint. That complaint is that the edge of field in this wide-angle eyepiece shows moderate distortion. That being said, the views in 80% of the rest of the field are excellent. This is a very sharp eyepiece! Contrast was also very good. Eye relief was surprisingly good (non-eyeglass wearer...at least while observing) Mechanical construction of the piece is an "interesting" home brewed affair, but functional. Like every other review, I must say this eyepiece is a bargain. If I had to compare it to another eyepiece, I'd say it is a small step above the very good Orion Ultrascopic.

This 12.5 stacks up in quality with my $200+ eyepieces, for a fraction of the cost. I bought it precisely because it has just three elements. When you pack in eight or so elements you are going to lose light and contrast, even with the finest components. Less is more! In this case, more contrast and more sharpness. Recently, for example, I had really fine views of several globulars, almost like "being there." Last night I got my first view of Pluto, and tried several eyepieces on it. This Siebert 12.5 gave me the most satisfactory view, using my f4.9 16" truss Newt. (By the way, I also have and LOVE his 36mm 2" Observatory eyepiece.)

Harry Siebert Optics Standard 12.5mm
This eyepeice has quite a large glass for a 12.5mm eyepeice. The eye relief is very comfortable. I use it in an 4" off axis reflector that is probably the least forgiving telescope you can put an eyepeice in as there is no false color and no diffraction spikes. The HS 12.5mm shows a slight bit of color on bright planets, but none on the moon and only a little on very bright stars. It also losses a very little bit of sharpness toward the last 5deg of fov. Considering the great eye relief and wide 65deg fov with this price it is almost too good to believe. The Moon through my DGM 4.0 with this occular is everything you own a telescope for.

( -> See my comments for Siebert's 10 mm wide angle)
I strongly recommend this EP to everyone (without glasses). Even without considering the price I give a 10!

HARRYS 12.5MM WA IS BETTER than the 12mm U.O. orthoscopic anyday. the fov in my f/9 scope is almost pinpoint stars to the edge. The eye relief is Ok and the eyepiece is very light. I feel the contrast and the brightness is superd. thanks harry telescope8@hotmail.com

Ive had this eyepice for a while now and its been in many of our clubs telescopes, the longer the focal lenght of the telescope the better it is, we found above f/6 this eyepice really starts to give great images, below f/6 its still a very good eyepiece, But when we put this eyepiece in a 102 Tele Vue refactor we can bearly fault it. In a 4 inch APO its image quality is equal and sometimes better than the best brands like Tele Vue, Pentax and Tak's to name a few. In fast Dobs its very good but a 12.5mm UO ortho is slightly better on all areas of image qualty except for FOV. In SCT's it preforms the poorest, but still better than some of the cheaper Plossls, when I comment on preformance I mean evrything from coma sharpness of stars etc, colour correction. The feid of view is very nice, for the price you will be hard to find better.
