My 34mm Observatory was delivered about a week ago. Of course the clouds came. I had it out tonight and was very impressed for what I got for $199.00. Using in a 14" f/4.7 (yes, I am aware of the exit pupil issues) it had only the slightest distortion at the extreme edge. It does what I wanted it to do, it provides a significantly wider fov than my 26mm PL or my 32mm PL.

Oh yea, well worth mentioning. I have a truss dob that I didn't bother to collimate after I set it up. All the star images were sharp except at the extreme edge. I am not sure if this is saying something about the telescope or the EP.

This EP is an excellent value.

Harry Siebert 2" 34mm Observatory Class
I purchased one of the 34mm observatory series 2" eyepieces from Harry and have to say it is one quality eyepiece, sharp to the edge with no pin cushioning, light throughput is phenomenal (some glare under full moon) and very good contrast and color correction, I was impressed to see it show stars in open clusters in there natural color which was a surprise as my Panoptics have not done this, the eyepiece made for a pleasant night out under the stars using my 12" F 4.9 Dobson. I am not sure about the rest of Harry's line but I have a feeling that his new line of eyepieces are of quality that the big name companies don't want us to know about...word of advise buy the eyepiece not the name!

If you like the UO 32mm Mk 70 or Celestron 34mm Axiom but wished they worked better on a fast scope, and weighed even less, and cost even less, then this is your EP.

Harry Siebert 2" 34mm Observatory Class
I have looked through an Observatory and a Celestron Axiom for quite some time now. I rate both tops in their class for the price you pay. However, the Axiom will outperform in f/8 scopes or longer, and the Observatory will outperform in fast Dobs and fast refractors that are shorter than f/8 focal ratio.

If you have a fast Dob or big rich field refractor that has a 2" focuser, you should check out the 34mm Siebert Observatory. Put it up against the most expensive and heaviest EP's you can find, and see if the cost and weight difference is worth it. Don't think that a cheap Chinese 2" EP is going to equal the Observatory Class. You'll see quite a bit of difference there. Like I said, it's really up there in the premium EP league, it just doesn't have the weight, bulk, and higher price.

Another thing, I have owned nine Siebert EP's so far, and none of them ever developed lens rattles like even my Japanese EP's did. Don't think that because it's light it's going to fly apart on you. Quite the opposite, I would expect it to survive a fall better than the heavy EP's would.

This eyepiece is simply a "gem"! Sharp to the very edge, great eye relief, no kidney bean, light weight, hand crafted....this is my workhorse eyepiece for my custom made 12.5" f4.8 Dob. This ocular along with all of Harry's Observatory Class line are a great match for slower scopes.

Also, the price ($199) cannot be beat for an ocular that matches the Panoptics in performance (in my humble opinion)....Thanks a bunch Harry and Kathy!

astigmatism in the center is likely from your own eye at large exit pupils.
I received one of these a week ago for use with my 12 f/5 Dob.  The eyepiece I received is good, but not great in my book.  Mine displays internal reflection on bright objects like Sirius, requires a focuser extension tube to reach focus and a hint of astigmatism even on axis.  On the plus side, the field is very flat to the edge, eye relief is ample and overall it's a very comfortable eyepiece to use.  I haven't yet done a head to head with premium eyepieces (like the 27mm Panoptic, 14mm Meade UWA, 17mm Vixen Lanthanum Superwide, 21mm Pentax XL, etc.), but have concerns about transmission given the internal reflection in mine.  Of course, as you say, these are handmade, so maybe you got a good one and I got a less good one.
