Brand and Model:GSO 2" 2x
Price ($USD):$59.00
Magnification:2.0x
Barrel Size:2"
Description:Guan Shen Optical (GSO)Barlow 2x - 2" Version

This is the 2" counterpart of our famed 1.25", 2x/1.5x TS Barlow lens. It is well made both in design and craftmanship. Both lenses are fully multi-coated for best-possible contrast and transmission. The lenses have a diameter of 37mm, thus you can even use 2" wide angle eyepieces without vignetting.

Further uses:

- With a 2" extension tube - 48mm - you will attain a magnification of 2.7x compared to an eyepiece without the Barlow lens. That way you turn a 30mm wide angle eyepiece into an 11mm wide angle eyepiece with comfortable eye relief.

- Remove the black anodized lens cell from the Barlow lens and screw it directly into your eyepiece to attain a magnification of 1.5x.

This is an amazing piece of equipment at an amazing price[$49.00 plus $8.00 priority mail shipment from Owl Services]. If you have a 2" diagonal this Barlow is a must have. As previously stated by others, it will provide 3X if placed in front of the diagonal. Is this the best bargain in astronomy gear? You better believe it!

I have used this Barlow with 2 inch eyepieces of 26, 28.5, 30, and 32mm focal length. It gives incredibly good views of deep sky and planetary objects. It is far preferable to using short focal length eyepieces with their terrible eye relief.

I see no reason to buy Nagler eyepieces with the performance I am getting. All of these 2 inch eyepieces I use have 80 degree or better fields, with the exception of the 26. I am getting Nagler like performance with better, but not excessive eye relief. I see no need for a panoptic interface lens. Talk about a waste of money. The barlow also works well with my 20mm Superview 67 degree eyepiece with adaptor. I bought this for $59 from Owl services. I use this setup in an 8 inch f10 SCT. Also, I did not notice any vignetting with this barlow.

I agree with the two previous reviews. This 2" barlow may be all you really need. I compared this GSO barlow to another barlow I own - an 1.25" Orion Shorty Plus apochromatic. The GSO is brighter, marginally sharper and to me is built better. It has a nice 1.25" compression ring adapter. The lens cell is removable (unlike the Orion Shorty Plus) so the lens may be easily cleaned and/or attached to your 2" eyepieces. It is better suited than the Orion to use ahead of the diagonal in my refractor - so that it also works as a 3X barlow as well. All of my cheap eyepieces work better with this barlow and makes me wonder why you really need a barlow to be multi-element or "apochromatic" in design. The optics in this one is exceptional. Also, buy it from Owl for the best deal.

GSO 2" 2x
I purchased this Barlow in conjuction with a 42mm 2" eyepiece of the same maker (see my review for the Guan Shen Optics 42mm) for $59 on Ebay. This Barlow is made in Taiwan and is being sold to several outlets and being sold as their eyepeices (Teleskop Services, Owl Services, etc), I purchased mine on Ebay from OwlServices (Owl1) and got it for a deal at $59. He doesn't have the 2" eyepieces and accessories up on his site yet but he assures me they will be up soon with some accessories (Barlows, Extension tubes, etc) His site is http://owlservices.com or just go to ebay and do a search for 2" eyepieces. By the way, the same eyepiece is being sold by Teleskop services for more than double!!
The construction of this barlow is solid with an all aluminum body and a textured grip. It comes with a 1.25 adapter and works much better than my Orion Shorty (which stays in the case now!) This barlow appears to be fully multi-coated as it is labeled and fits perfectly snug in my scope (f/4.9 Reflector) The GSO 42mm fits in it as though the were cut from the same piece of metal and works like a charm. Optically, this barlow rocks! Using my Orion shorty in comparsion, every single view was improved with the GSO barlow. Even though this barlow is big because it is 2", it does not look as long as others I have seen. I looks like a 2" shorty, but works great! It's still cheaper than most and it won't cut your field of view short in your wide-field eyepieces. Anyway, I highly recommend this barlow, you won't be disappointed!

I bought this barlow from owl services. It was packaged well and delivered satisfactory. Thanks OWL1. A quality feel, fit and finish to this GSO product. The optics are clean. Threaded objective end for filters. Very good light transmission. Its not an APO but I use it for star clusters and nebula which is mostly black, gray and white light.
Used this barlow on my fast dob to help edge of feild sharpness. I recommend this product based on excellent value!

I also bought mine from Owl Services on E-Bay and they provide outstanding service. This is one of those exceptional pieces of optical equipment where it appears EVEYTHING is first rate (optics, build quality) and at a price that is extraordinary. This is the first and last Barlow you will EVER need...it's that good.
