Hirano loved to use pan holds throughout this OVA series. At one point in time I actually counted them b/c I was studying (I am a animator) his techniques. A conservative estimate is 40+ pans in this three episode OVA series.

You will also observe other classic Hirano techniques like the half dark close up shots. He used that again again in other series like Iczer-1, Iczer 3, and Iczelion.

The animation is considerably good considering this was made back in 1988! It is not full animation but there is plenty of attention to detail and good consistency for all three episodes. Yes there is only three, but the industry standard nowadays is fairly lax. The quality of the average OVA series drops, thankfully this did not occur with Dangaioh.

There is little to humor in the series.

The soundtrack is solid 80s music and much like the BGC OVAs its dated, but good iF you like the type of music.

Overall the series is too often overlooked. This series does not get enough respect that is so richly deserves. Hirano and the talented individuals that worked on this series went on to create and direct other great series. Think of this as their master thesis, a piece of work that is definitely worth watching.

Dangaio is one of the all time classic animes from the late 80s! This OVA series combined the talented efforts of then young artists Hirano Toshirano (character designs) and Shoiji Kawamori (mecha designer). This series is awesome with vibrant colours and larger than life villians and mecha. Few dramas in 2001 to the present come close to the quality seen in this series. Its a real pity Hirano never continued the series. Nevertheless, do yourself a favor check this out. Disclaimer not for people who like shojo anime, go what some stupid anime like Love Hina (which is ugly as hell and has one of the dumbest plots ever).

This is one of the best anime of mechas. It has a very good animation and the protagonist have very personality. The battles of the robots have action and Dangaioh is the most powerfull superobot of the universe. He can use the powers of the four pilots to increase her power and destroy any enemy. Her attacks are very good because they are very impactant

COME ON Y'ALL!!! This one has it all. Where else can you get the fantastic combination of both Mecha and super heroes. Sure there have been better, but this is one that you should not miss. Plus it has the most powerful Mecha EVER! So give it a try, I guarantee that it wont be a waste of your time.

This was the first videos that I watched that could be classified as ''real anime''. So with that in mind, I can't really say if I enjoy this series because of quality or nestalgia. Regardless, this is still one of my favorites and I encourage every one to at least check it out (Subbed only!! The dub sucks!)

There are only two things that stood out out of this series. 1) Gil Berg is really vengeful and memorable bad guy character that really stood out from the rest of the cast. and 2) A really cool name like "Pie Thunder". Any woman with a name like tha should hook up with Dragon Half's "Dick Saucer".
