Description:BF10 Blocking filter intended for scopes with 1000mm focal length or less. Type: AS1 series. Thermally stable using hard, non degradable coatings throughout. The SolarMax 40 is sold with a companion T-Max tuner and blocking filter. The blocking filter is housed in a 1.25" diagonal. This combination allows for a full disc image at a focal length up to 1000mm. With an adaptor plate the SolarMax40 can be fitted to many commonly used telescopes. Includes T-Max tuner and 10mm blocking filter.

Some events on the Sun,- notably active flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), are extremely fast moving. If such features occur on the disc of the Sun, their high velocity towards the observer results in their wavelength being Doppler shifted shorter than Ha. This wavelength may be outside the passband of the filter and thereby not observable. The T-Max allows the user to de-tune the Solarmax slightly to bring such phenomena into better visibility. A simple rotary wheel movement tilts and moves the passband of the filter. This does not compromise the performance of the filter nor limit the Ha field of view as is the case with rear mounted filters.

Features:

Bandwidth: <0.8A
Wavelength: 6562.8A
Aperture: 40mm

It's rare that I use a "10" for rating anything nowadays. The SolarMax40 is a solid 10 w/no reservations. This has been one of the most satisfying purchases I've made in a long time. Just like w/a high quality scope, mount, ep, or accy., the gratification is instant.

No hassle use is a real plus! No heaters to mess with or limit you. It can set up anywhere in an instant. Considering the angular size of the Sun, 40mm and the magnification it allows is more than ample. I feel no "want" for the bigger or better model as I often do with some other equipment.

If you happen to get one of the early models that came w/o the TMax tuner, get it! Also well worth the money at $145 AND they're in stock! A binoiviewer adds a dimension(pardon the pun)to solar observing that has to be seen to be appreciated. Simply stunning.

Coronado has put high-tech within reach of many more with this incredible product. Best inovation since the pocket calculator.

HINT: Drape out as much ambient light as possible! This includes light entering your peripheral vision. The views improve exponentially.

Coronado SolarMax 40mm
Had a look thru today at an astronomy day star party. The filter was on a Borg 60mm. It consistenly drew raves from all who looked through it. The filter is adjustable from 'White' light through Hydrogen-Alpha only. The owner indicated he initially had difficulties because the filter has to be perfectly aligned in order to show prominences.

The prominences that were visible today showed fine detail. If you are into solar then this filter is a 'gotta have'.
