I have used the Celestron 26mm Pl for years. I tend use use scopes with a ratio of f/4.7 to f/6. I cannot think of any vices that it has. It is one of the workhorse eps in my collection.

Celestron Plossl 26mm
A friend gave me a 26mm Ultima eyepiece 6 months ago. I have compared it with a Meade 4000 26mm and Televue 20mm. The Ultima is every bit as good as either. The Meade is like looking through a porthole, but the Ultima puts the image right up to the surface of the lens, like a picture to look at - much more relaxing. It is about the same size and weight as my Nagler 7mm and is built just as solidly. I consider it one of my best midpower eyepieces. I recommend it.

This review is for the 25mm Celestron silver sided black bevel Plossl (no eyecup) that came with my G9.25. (Chinese "silver top"?) I really liked this eyepiece and will always think of it fondly although I have since replaced it with my Meade 26mm 4000 series. I have to say though, that this eyepiece had _very_ enjoyable comfortable views. It wasn't as sharp overall or to the edge, but it seemed to have an edge in terms of light throughput and eyerelief. Also, when comparing both the celestron and the meade, i found the 25mm really magnified the image noticably more (maybe that was an optical illusion being that i was closer to the glass element then to the recessed lens in the meade?). The eyerelief was probably what i'd consider to be perfect (better then with the Meade) and the brightness was impressive. It gave almost a windowed view of the sky which gave me that "space walk" feeling many times, something my other low magnification EP's (26mm, 32mm) don't give me, despite their overall sharper views. Barlowed incredibly well with the GTO shorty 2x barlow.

Nice eyepiece. Works very well with an f/10 or slower scope(probably why they give it away when you buy one of their scopes). Performance decreases as the scope gets faster at f/5 or faster begins to perform very poorly at the edges of field and seems to black out frequently. Nice if you get it free but not equal to after markets in the 25mm range. If you need an eyepiece in this range try Orion there's is a lot better.

Very nice sharp EP,struggles a little at the extreme edge when used in fast F-ratio scopes(below F5),eye relief is very good(even with glasses)slight blackout problem encountered like the previous reviewers(thought it was only me til reading these reviews)works well with EP projection photography.This is a very good EP that represents a good value.I got mine(used) for $20.00 shipped off of astromart.This would make a great EP for yourself and one you wouldn't worry to much about giving to a young person.

Very bright, sharp from almost edge to edge. No color or fringe. Has a
long eye relief. I would rate this higher, but it has a slight blackout problem.
It was useable with a barlow, but the blackout problem increases.

Not bad for a freebie eyepiece included with some Celestron scopes. The eye relief is just perfect for me with glasses, probably a bit long without glasses. The image is bright and sharp over most of the field of view. My only complaint is loss of sharpness out at the edge of the field. Can be used with a barlow with good results. Even though I own and use premium eyepieces, I'll probably keep this one forever just because it has no fatal flaws and sometimes comes in handy.

Surprisingly good considering this is the freebee Celestron throws in with most or all SCTs they sell. It is clear and bright and a pleasure to use. For a while I stopped using it when I got more expensive eyepieces (Televue, Ultima and Vixen) but I have recently started using it again and find new reasons to like it.
