Celestron Plossl 12.5mm
Bought new 4 or 5 years ago. Pre-Nexstar series, orange and black, made in Taiwan and labeled "multicoated", I believe it sold for $40 to $50 new. Maybe it just happens to hit the "sweet spot" in my scopes (with Ultima 2X barlow 77X in Televue Ranger and 160X in Celestron C102-HD), but its performance is outstanding. Quite comfortable, the eye-relief has to be greater than the 8mm listed above. Brightness is good. Sharpness, contrast, and clarity are excellent. I usually feel that ratings of 10 apply only to the absolute best from Televue, Takahashi, Pentax, etc. However, I can't think of a single complaint I have with this eyepiece. If you can find a used one out there, grab it quick. (I'd be interested to know why this line was replaced with the Nexstar plossls. Maybe the shorter focal lengths were always bad, but I have a Nexstar 8mm which is just awful, easily the worst eyepiece I've ever owned.)

Celestron Plossl 12.5mm
This ep has a really clear and bright view. Many times I have been using a Meade 9.7 sp and I switch back to the 12.5 Pl because the view will brighten up considerably. It has an easy to use eye relief and it barlows well with the celestron Ultima to give me bright clear view with good eye relief at 200 power. When I'm looking for one more step up from my 7.5mm Ultima at 167x and the jump to the 5mm Ultima at 250x gets to dark, the 12.5mm barlowed at 200x provides the needed boost. I have used this combo many times to resolve stars into the core of M13, M3 and M5 globulars. Very nice inexpensive plossl. edz.
