Using the same tripod and basically the same mount as the Nexstar 11, this is a very stable and solid assembly. Great optics and easy to use. The only problem was that the Nexstar 11 was only $500 more, making this one seem expensive. With the new $500 rebate, it is an excellent value.

I am a newbie in amateur astronomy. This is my first telescope I owned. Have used the telescope for stargazing for a total of 5 times. Some of the features I like and comments from some folks during the starparty.

1. Good Goto accuracy tracking, after level the mount with a level bubble.
2. Easy to use the handcontroller.
3. Very quiet during tracking, can hardly hear the motor sound.
4. Optics is great.
5. GPS is great. Subsequent GPS linking time is less than 20 sec. Great help for newbie like me who has limited knowledge in ability to identify star in the sky. Without GPS, you have to know the location of the stars and the name of the star.
6. Setup time less than 15 minutes.

Additional accessory recommended.

1. I have replace the stardard 9X50 finderscope comes with the telescope with Telrad Finder. It greatly reduce the time requires to mount the standard finderscope and time requires to align the finderscope. The Telrad Finder has quick release to easily snap the finder into position in subsequence mounting.

Highly recommended for newbie if you don't mine the weight.

As a gazer that learned star-hopping skills in clock-driven SCT's, the addition of this GoTo model is a welcomed tool.

The 8" optics are first rate (e.g., free of aberrations), the computerized drive/mount is very accurate and easy to use, and the tripod is sturdy and vibrations-free. The tube/mount combo, at 41lbs, has well placed carrying handholds.

Experienced and novice users can spend a whole lot of time observing celestial targets, rather than searching for them, with this "jack-of-all-trades" scope.

I am blown away...all I can say is WOW!!

As someone who has owned several other scopes (including the competitors equivalent), I can say that this is the finest scope I have owned and used...

With the rebate of $500, this scope is an excellent value. Objects are picked up first time, every time provided you have done a good initial alignment. CCD photography works extremely well.

The Celestron 8 GPS is a class act. The light-weight carbon fiber tube, advanced electronics, classic celestron SCT quality, heavy-duty tripod, GPS, just set it up and it's ready -- anywhere. This scope is truly a dream.

Great Scope. I saw more in my first 2 hours witih this scope than I saw in 1.5 years with my LX-10. Make sure you get one of the newest ones manufactured, otherwise you will have to swap out the handcontroller and motor controller.
