Celestron Compustar
-A revolutionary amateur scope that was ahead of it's time The C8 OTA with starbright coatings is solid (same as other C8s including the venerated Ultima). The mount, on the other hand, has it's quirks. Goto pointing accuracy is mediocre by today's standards, but at the time (late 80's to early 90's) it was the only game in town. The drive system is loud and power hungry. Celestron opted to use large stepper motors to drive the RA and DEC axes directly rather than current servo/reduction gear method currently implemented on many amateur go/to scopes. No PEC and no optical encoders are available. The computer suffers from the y2K bug, but a work-around is available in the aftermarket. The tripod and wedge are rock solid and are the exact same as those used by the Ultima.
