Paid $300.00 new for this scope new at an east coast Florida camera shop. He couldn't give them away. Reflectors and FL aren't necessarily a good mix. Optics for this size scope are excellent. Even got a digital photo of the moon out of it that was pretty good. This is a great urban scope. Saturn reveals Cassini's and at least one moon, that other speck may have been a moon or a star, don't know. Just made out the bands the planet and the ring's shadow was evident in a star full of twinkling stars at 150x. Haven't seen Jupiter with it yet.

For a beginner this is an excellent scope and beats out the smaller refractors available. For the seasoned amateur on a budget or confined to the city lights this is a scope you never have to disassemble. I leave mine set up all the time and just pick the whole thing up and set it in the driveway when the sky is usable.

This is an excellent scope to begin observing with. I don't believe Celestron is still making it, however. This is unfortunate, as it would easily be the best 114mm Newt. on a GEM available.

IMHO, not much detail seen considering the price. A friend`s C-102 easily outperformed it on planets and almost everything else. But, imho, it might make a good starter scope for kids!

This may be the finest beginner telescope for the money on the market. It is currently priced in the $300.00-350.00 range. I sold mine about three months ago, it got replaced by a 4" Televue. This scope is way overmounted. While the CG-4 has some trouble with heavier scopes, vibration in the 6 lb. tube damps out almost immediatly.

The optics are nicely done. The secondary mirror is mounted on a single stalk which does not seem to create a lot of refraction. The primary is a spherical figure. But with the fairly long focal length f8, 910mm, it is only detectable with a star test. This is an example of what everyones first scope should be. Nice optics on a mount that is designed to handle the OTA.

The single axis drive that is sold for this scope does a nice job. When properly polar aligned, I could take piggyback photos with a 200mm lens of 20 min. duration before star trailing became evident. If my wife would have let me buy the Televue and keep this scope, I definitley would have.

Purchased mine through Globalmart.com for only $249.95. Good buy with the CG-4 mount. Went together in about an hour. Haven't star tested yet, but everything looks good so far.
