Wow... :) I already had the 15mm and 23mm Axioms, so I knew this would be good. The view is astounding. *Wide*, clear, tack-sharp, great contrast...

Superlatives are not enough to go on. You *need* to look through one of these, then you'll want one. :)

Celestron Axiom 50mm
Actually more like a larger version of the 30mm Ultima than an Axiom, due to the 50 degree AFOV. The optical performance is simply outstanding and every owner of a long focal ratio scope should try one. It turns my f/15 Mak-Cass into a deep sky scope with an exit pupil over 3mm. Would be a great EP for an f/20 classic Cassegrain or an f/16 achromat. With a fast Dob, the exit pupil will be too large and you will get blackouts. Stars are sharp to the very edge when used in an f/8 or longer focal ratio scope, which this EP was made for. All the 2" Axioms work better at longer focal ratios. Buy Panoptics or something else if you have a fast Dob.

Celestron Axiom 50mm
Very impressive with my Mewlon 210 or my vixen 80ED. The field is absolutely flat. I was told that the takahashi 50mm eyepiece is better... perhaps but this one is still realy very good.

Celestron Axiom 50mm
I think that you can only compare this EP to the Tak 50mm that sells for more money. Both are better than the TV 55mm Plossl. This EP behaves visually more like an Ultima than an Axiom, but has the more complex build of the Axiom line, and of course the Axiom price tag. This is an EP for long focus scopes like big Maks and Cassegrains, or classic achromat refractors with long focal ratios. Pretty much useless in a fast Dob. This is a nice big honkin' EP for folks who like their visual scopes big and focal ratios long. The image it throws up is as good as you are ever likely to see in a big 2" EP. I envision this EP is a big 20" classic Cassegrain scope or a huge f/16 achromat. This EP will be found in the cases of those who have big scopes in a home observatory.

Celestron Axiom 50mm
Out-standing eyepiece. But, I've nothing substancial to compare it to. Allthough I'm using it to replace a Celestron 40mm Plossl. Through my C8 I see just over 1 degree of sky and views of the moon are spectacular. I feel like the Apollo astronauts must have felt when on final approach to the moon. Terrestrial viewing is astonishing allthough I did notice a little focusing problem toward the edge of view. Also the dark spot in the center of an SCT can be slightly annnoying on bright sunny days with this eyepiece. Overall, these low power eyepieces can be expensive but you gotta have one of these in you collection for scanning and even birding in the back yard. Which is astounding with this eyepiece and scope. Birding alone makes this eyepiece worth every penny. If only I could find a 45 degree 2" erect image diagonal to go with it.
