Reading the other reviews on this ep leads me to beleive there must be some variances in quality. However, the one i have is a real gem, sharp as any ep i have owned and with good FOV. eyerelief on my ep is slightly better than a 18mm Meade i owned which is contrar to other reviewers findings.

In conclusion this is a very good eyepiece for the money.

A very good eyepiece. Good FOV, sharp with good contrast. I have 50+ yr old eyes, and find the eye relief comfortable. :)

I liked this and the 23mm so much, I bought the 50mm!

Great for the price, of course an extra 100 bucks would get you something better but some of us astro people are on a budget. I have noticed slight edge distortion at f/5 and it is worse at f/4, but still a pretty good view for the price. This eyepeice really got me hooked on wide field views. The edge distortion and low eye relief merited the lower scores.

Great contrast and resolution to the edge of the field. Get a nice wide field without balance problems usually induced by the big 2 inch wide-field pieces. Sold 2 inch pieces after comparisons

Good eyepiece. Sharp to about 90% in my f/6...
Tight eye relief, but the main reason I rated at 9 not ten.....It doesn't fit into a Celestron Ultima 2X barlow???? Go figure...

Same is true for the 23mm....

This is the perfect eyepiece for deep sky observing on my C6. Nice bright, wide field images that are sharp. No distortion. Eye relief is a little short but not uncomfortable. Nice eyepieces.

I find the eye relief at the short end of what I feel is comfortable. If you use this EP with the Celestron Ultima Barlow, then eye relief is increased a bit and it becomes a 7mm wideangle. It's then a good EP to use on fast Dobs. The 23mm Axiom will vignette with a Barlow, so you should use a Powermate on that one. The 15mm Axiom also works well with a Powermate, but the eye relief will not be increased.

This is a classic design EP, and thus more compact than modern wideangles such as the Hyperions, LVW and Stratus series. It's a good EP for binoviewing because of the compact dimensions and relatively light weight. The multi-coatings are top notch and the build quality is as good as I have ever found in an EP. Axiom EP's maintain their brightness all the way to the field stop and are far less distorted than the 82 degree type EP's. I prefer their more correct view over EP's that give a wider view but with more distortions.

I disagree with a previous reviewer that $100 will necessarily get you anything better. It will get you something better for using at f/4, but not at f/15 like I use mine. Eye relief is a little tight in cyclops mode, but not uncomfortable. It is a very good amount of eye relief when using binoviewers and scanning around, as I use mine. Too long eye relief will cause blackout problems when binoviewing. In an f/15 Mak you will get a 1mm exit pupil which maxes out the resolving power of your scope. This is a good EP for observing globular clusters in Maks and slow achromats. I also use mine at f/15 in my achromat. While a Panoptic has better edge sharpness at f/5, why put up with all that pincushion distortion if your scope is f/10 or slower? Enter the Axiom 15mm, the long focal ratio scope owner's all purpose high power eyepiece. The view is immersive, the optical performance outstanding, the size/weight/cost only moderate. The multicoatings used in this EP are advanced, and not merely the green and purple coatings seen in even more costly EP's. Now that Celestron has dropped this line, they are getting hard to find. Hope somebody like Antares or University Optics picks up the slack. I bought a binoviewer pair, which means I must really like these EP's because while reasonable, they aren't cheap. Depending on your scope's focal ratio, the Axiom 15mm occupies a spot somewhere between planetary and deep sky, making it incredibly versatile. It's the shortest Axiom EP. I have a 9mm SWAN EP for higher power use, and it is nowhere in the same league as the Axioms.
