Originally marketed as an astrograph and sold as an OTA only, black tube originally. Optics are better than excellent.

What an incredible telescope. It has the best optics I've ever looked through. Being small and light, it is easy to carry around. I use it on a Gitzo tripod and fluid head, a fine combination.
Focuser mechanics are OK, no play or backlash, but not in the same leage as my AP130. Optics are definitely better. Perfect startest. Sun with Baader filter is jawdropping. So are Saturn, Jupiter, Moon, double stats and the Messier objects. So much clarity, sharpness and contrast. I find it difficult to put my enjoyment of the images in this telescope into words. But let me say this: the FL 70 brings me closer to the universe then any other scope I've used.

Clear skies.

Erik

Great little scope with amazing optics and no color. Perfect star test and excellent contrast providing top notch planetary performance considering the aperture. Very well baffled. I have it mounted on a Tele Vue Tele Pod as a grab and go scope but have also mounted it on a GP-DX for photography.

This scope was found buried at the bottom of a display case at a camera shop. Its a treasured find that I will never part with. Its worth seeking out.

It's one of these telescopes I'll keep until I die.

This tiny, relatively short and lightweight telescope looks like all these classical Vixen/Celestron optical tubes. It's well made but not as perfect as a Takahashi or a TMB.

Its near perfect optics makes it to the absolutely winner in the 70mm class. A few years ago I owned a TV-Pronto. O.K. don't compare the mechanics.
The Pronto showed a lot of color. I saw different Prontos in the past. The Celestron has NO, really no color and its star test is too perfect to say there is something wrong with it, no spherical aberrations, no astigatism, no zones..... The optics are equal to my Zeiss APQ 100/1000 I owned 2 years ago.

Are there some limits? Yes it's only a 70mm scope - that's the only limit. But everything you see is just perfect.

If you find one of this scopes on the used market, buy it and keep it forever!!
