Description: | I purchased this scope used in 1963, Cave Optics in generic fiberglass Tube on massive 12.5" (2" steel shafts) Star Liner Mount with H&W Optical Clock drive. It has been a great preformer over the years stars show 4 spikes from secondary holder but are sharpe and bright, but with slight coma near the edge of the feild, it has good contrast and is rock steady on this mount. One of the few telescopes I've seen that is overmounted. Steel shafts turn in bronze and aluminum bushings, very smooth. It has been updated with a Meade 9x60 RA finder, JMI NGF DX3 focuser, rotating tube rings of my own design, Litghted and magnified pointers on 6" setting circles. Next project is to motorize dec axis and to add a drive corrector. The tube is somwhatlarger than it need to be and at over 200lbs it's nmot very portable, that's my only complaint. I rate it as a 9.5 |
