Burgess Optical 20x80 lightweight
[Note: Vote moved from description by webmaster]

Newly introduced 20x80 lightweight by Burgess Optical. Very low cost ($149) and believe it or not - optics that are superior to some other models selling for over three times the cost - better spherical aberration, color correction and contrast! (No , I don't work for Burgess but Bill Burgess did send me one for review). I had these side by side with an Orion MegaView 20x80. The Burgess was significantly better as mentioned above.

Burgess Optical 20x80 lightweight
Like the Burgess 25x100, these binoculars are an exceptional value, indeed, an unbelieveable value. They are very, if not worrisomely, light, sharp to about 85% of the FOV, extremely smooth to focus, have central focusing, are much cheaper to mount and tripod, because of their lesser weight, present a wide 3.5 degree FOV, have a 4mm exit pupil diameter, and a nice enough hard case. They do not present the porthole into space mesmerizingly three dimensional effect of the Burgess 25x100, and are a kitty whisker less sharp dead center, but offer very pleasing and relaxed views and are spectacular enough. Value is really 10.5 and optics 9.2, with the optics of the 25x100 being closer to 9.4 and value there, 10.25. Very highly recommended. For $150 and a Bogen 3011 tripod and a cheap fluid head, you are in business and have much fun at hand. Much more pleasing rich field views than a small aperature (75mm to 100mm) refractor and a much better tool for learning the night sky. Good for daytime use too.

Very good value. 20x80's from Orion go for three times as much. These are the same as the Oberwerk 20x80LW and you save $50. They do get heavey without a tripod.

Burgess Optical 20x80 lightweight
Excellent value
The optics are pretty good but not as sharp as some of the reviews would have you believe. For example, one review claims that the Trapezium can be resolved into four stars. I have tried that several times and while I can tell there are more than 1 or 2 stars, it is just beyond the ability (of this pair at least) to split all 4.
I had no trouble at all splitting Albireo in Cygnus though and I have seen far more Messier objects in these binoculars than I ever did with my Orion 80mm refractor. Also, I was amazed at the number of faint deepsky objects I could see with my 20x80's like the Crab nebula, Ring nebula, and even the owl nebula at mag. 11.
Recommended at twice the price!

I don't have much to compare with (that's the only reason I don't put optics at a 10. I really like these binoculars. They are an exceptional value. I built a mounting frame that attaches to the frame. The balance point is about 3.5" forward of the 1/4" threaded mounting hole. When mounted at the balance point, they can be used on a light tripod, although I like the parallelogram mount with survey tripod.
