Baader Fringe Killer

Bought one of these for my 5 inch F9.3 achromat. Does an excellent job of controlling CA without much loss of light. Resolution and contrast with the filter is improved considerably allowing the scope to be pushed to higher magnifcation levels than would be normally possible. Baader's claim that the use of the filter on a moderate focal ratio will make it perform much like an F15 system appears to be born out on my scope. Only a very pale yellowish cast is imparted to the image, which is hardly noticed after a while. I also have a Baader Contrast Booster , but find that for my 5 inch scope the Fringe Killer is superior. The higher light transmission of the Fringe killer makes up for any gains that the Booster may have in controlling CA. The Booster simply cuts too much light in my my scope, and would probably perform better in a larger aperture or a shorter focal ratio scope where CA is more severe, and where the more aggressive filtering makes up for the light loss. In my opinion this filter is money well spent and can make a well corrected and collimated achromat perform on a level very close or even equal to an ED with respect to the actual amount of detail seen in the eyepiece.
