Description:Much more than a simple minus-violet filter. Based on the popular Baader Moon&Skyglow filter, the Baader Contrast-Booster takes contrast enhancement and skyglow reduction one step further. Not only does this filter deliver a significant enhancement of planetary and lunar contrasts, but it is designed to also eliminate the damaging blue defocused haze present in achromatic refractors. Gone are the annoying blue halo and obscuring haze that surround and smear resolution and contrast. Subtle contrasts and colors are boosted, while displaying the full resolution your scope is capable of.

I just got one of these last week to try out for the Mars opposition. This has to be the best filter for Mars out there! It increases the surface details as well (if not better) as my wratten #21 filter, yet shows the planet in it's true colors instead of making everything orange (or red, or yellow, etc.). I much prefer using this to my color filters.

I have not yet tried it on my achromat, so I really can't comment on it's violet-reduction qualities - I have been using this in my newtonian.

The quality optically and cosmetically reminds me of my Lumicon filters. This is a steal at $40 for what it does - it deserves a solid "10."

Great filter! I tried a few color filters and wasn't happy with the false colors. I wanted something that would give a true image. This filter delivers. I use this with an 8" f/6 Dob. Mars' albedo features stand out. It almost mimics good seeing. Colors stay true. This should also do good on Jupiter as red seems to stand out. I also used it on M57 with good results. Sky background darkened and Ring was not affected. For $39.00 this is a steal.

Baader Contrast Booster
I have both the contrast booster and the fringe killer . With my 5 inch F9.3 achromat in a comparison the fringe killer wins due mainly to its greater light transmission In my opinion the Contrast Booster is more appropriate with larger aperture achromats like the 6 inch F8 or smaller short tube scopes with fast optics where color aberration is more severe and the Contrast Boosters more aggressive CA control outweighs its lower light transmission. However as a Mars filter in any scope it has no equal. Also it is excellent for digital imaging with my f 9.3 when combined with a IR cut filter. However as a filter for control of false color in moderate focal ratio achromats of 5 iinches aperture and under the fringe killer does a better job in my opinion.

I purchased this filter for use in my 5 inch f/9.3 Apogee
achromat. Without the filter Chromatic Aberration limited good planetary performance to about 200x. With the filter over 300x can be employed to advantage. Despite the pale yellow cast, the actual detail and contrast visable comes embarrassingly close to apos costing many times more.
