Description:Although we originally designed the 155mm f7 StarFire EDF (6.1" aperture) featuring our gigantic focuser and field flattener with the avid astrophotographer in mind, we have come to appreciate the versatility of this instrument. At the urging of our customers, we now offer the same excellent 155mm f7 lens in a lighter weight tube assembly with our 2.7" focuser.
We continue to be amazed at the compact size of this instrument. At last, a 6.1" refractor with an overall length of 40" (with dewcap retracted). This is less than half the length of an fl5 and approximately a foot shorter than an f9! In fact, it is about the same length as our 130mm f8, but with an inch more of aperture! You can transport it in a smaller car, store it in less space, invest in a smaller mount and shorter pier/tripod. This instrument is the fulfillment of the astronomer's dream for a truly portable 6.1" refractor.

This is the definitive large American APO, improved over a decade with refinements to optics, mechanical machining and design innovation. Cool down is good but a smaller apo is better.

what a terrific 6 inch scope. I have had some memorable looks at the moon- the detail in the craters really popped out at you. the optics were tack sharp.
On Vega, the star showed as a pure white/blue as did the star test.
The OTA is slim, relatively lightweight- everything is designed for ease of use.I find myself eager to set up and get going on this scope.
I would recommend this scope to the exacting observer- as mainly a visual hobbyist, I am confident in the optical quality and concentrate on the view, and not the optics.

My A-P arrived in August 1999. This is a beautiful instrument and I can't imagine a more perfect refractor. Magnification extremes run from 34x (Nagler 31) to 362x (Nagler 3-6). On precious few occasions when high magnification is possible on Jupiter and Saturn, the views are truly memorable. This scope also does a great job on Clusters and Double Stars. I'm not much of a deep sky buff.

When you own have an Astro-Physics refractor, you probably didn't want something else. I admire the Christen's resolve in building it their way. I admire the resolve of those that wait for their A-P.

The scope is a "WOW"
Worth the wait and every penny.
Built like a tank.
Went from a Tak to this scope, didn't think the focuser would match up against the Tak.
Surpasses it and then some.
I use mine in the San Fernando Valley in Ca. where seeing conditions, light pollution and air quality, are a problem.
The AP 155 cuts through it all like a lazer and simply put, gives views that are outstanding.
Amazed at the small size of this scope also.

Resolution and contrast are stunning. Have owned several other APOs and have had the opportunity to try several premier Dobs through 16". This scope beats them all!

Killer scope in every respect. Great planetary and binary star views at 500x or more (in perfect seeing, anyway). Pinpoint star images, perfect star test. Awesome for astrophotography, especially with 4" focuser.

Star test is perfect, brightness is exceptional. Absolutely no
chromatic aberration. Soaks up magnification to atmospheric limits.
Excellent portability. Must be experienced to be appreciated.

The scope rules!

600E with a pier for light photo, and CCD.

600E with tripod for visual.

900 for heavy photo.

Get the 4" if you dare, it's awesome

I have had this scope and the 600E mount for almost three years now. Wonderful telescope! Planetary views using the TeleVue Binovue are superb. Star images limited only by atomsphere. This is a scope that becomes very personal!

Superb scope, extremely stable on an AP 900 goto mount. With the AP/Zeiss/Baader binocular viewer, AP barlow and Zeiss Abbe Orthos the planetary performance is breathtaking. I only wish I had the 180 f/7. :-)
