It's just a 5", but god what a 5"! Star tests near perfect and I am amazed at resolving double stars at it's limit. Eta Corona Borealis, .7" comes out like a peanut at 330X. From the subtle details on Mars last year to the clean wide field views, I am very happy. The moon and Venus show no color fringing, but there is still something that lets you know that it is a refractor as you are comming in to focus.

As for deep sky, I have examined IC 1747 from my suburban back yard and noted some structure and have even tracked down Jones 1 and seen it as a ghostly semicircle. Good contrast.

Only complaint is there are some flares off some part inside the tube that make it to the film plane. Otherwise it is a great astrophotography system mounted on my G11.

Fabulous telescope. Great images, versatility and craftsmanship.Recommended!
Startest is perfect and no false color. Amazing sharpness and contrast. Very compact: easy setup and car-transportable.

Use it on a Zeiss mount, wich is light and stable. Total weight including telescope ca. 27 kg. This is light enough to be transportable around my observing place in one piece.

Images are just so much better than my 76mm semi-apo.

This is probably the finest allround manageble telescope around.

Clear skies to all!

Erik

It is well made and gives great images for the aperture, BUT, it is ONLY a five inch scope. In a side by side. My EL11 creams it on planets and deep sky, and my Obsession 15" shows planetary detail that this scope can only dream of. The major advantage is that it seems to cut through seeing better than the bigger apertures, when seeing is poor. And of course the wide field views are tremendous, but I prefer my binoculars for that. My EL11 gets 1.85 degrees (and my 15 gets 1.3) with a 40 widefield and the Wisps in the Veil are visible where the 5" doesn't shows them hardly at all. Conclusion is: refractors like this are great for those who prefer widefields and need to penetrate poor skies. But, for real performance, get a large scope. They always win in the long run. I sold mine and bought a 12.5" Starsplitter Compact 2. The workmanship is great by the way.

The big brother to the 105mm AP.

It's keeps on giving.

EM10, AP 400, of AP 600E all work well.

Great contrast and good optics allow small star imnages. Great for CCD Imaging and Wide flat field good for 35mm. I have seen things with this scope I would not have expected base on expierene with 6 in reflector. Mounted on a CG-11 this is one awesome photography or visual system The versatility is amazing. I can split doubles or swap to a 35 panoptic and get unbeleivable 3 degree views of the sky.

Absolutely first rate scope...at a star party ecently, 2 friends with a 10''SC and a 7''Meade Mak spotted the Great Red Spot...with my 5''AP,I was seeing a shadow of a transit within the GRS !!! I also own a AP 90mm,f:4.9...totally blows away my ETX in all aspects. One evening with high humidity,my AP easily split Cassini and showed Titan and Rhea; at the same power, the ETX could only show Titan and no ring split! Concl: High contrast with exceptional resolution at 86X(90mm). With my 130EDF,at 89X,I have made out 6 moons of Saturn,in suburban skies!! Photographically, I have taken high density pics with the 130EDF,mounted on a G11.

Great scope wide FOV one moment, then throw in a Barlow and a high power eyepiece and you ahve a planetary scope. All telescopes should be so versatile. IT also does great on CCD images. Stars are execllent, contrast and light throughput make it seem larger than it is as far as photography is concerned.

Just superb. Can't tell the difference between f/8 EDT at high power. Now that's some f/6 scope.
