Brand and Model:Aries Chromacor
Price ($USD):$599.00
Type:Coma Corrector
Description:The Aries Chromacor is a lens that corrects the chromatic aberrations and spherical aberrations in achromatic refractors. The Aries Chromacor transforms an achromatic refractor to perform like an apochromatic refractor at a much lower cost.

The Chromacor was designed to work with different size Synta refractors (5", 6"). However, the Chromacor also works with achromats from D&G, Meade, and other companies.

The Chromacor has a filter thread, which connects it into a 2" star diagonal. As long as your 2" diagonal has standard filter threads, it is mechanically compatible with the Chromacor. This allows the use any 1.25" or 2" eyepiece or accessory with the Chromacor.

We recommend that the Chromacor be used with the APM self centering adapter for smooth operations with the focuser in a Synta refractor.

Aries Chromacor
As described before the Aries Chromacor corrects for chromatic aberration, spherochromatism, and if necessary lower spherical aberration.

It does very well on the gas giants (especially Jupiter) and also with Mars. Without the Chromacor details are washed away by the chromatic aberration. Lunar detail is stunning compared to without the Chromacor.

It's best to get a complete matched unit from APM or John Hopper. Otherwise you need at least the self-centering adapter. The chinese-made 2 inch adapter ring is inadequate. Also you have to determine the quality of your optics by yourself in order to match it to the Chromacorr.

For Lunar/Planetary work in the 150mm range, an excellent and somewhat cheaper alternative is either an MN61 or MN66. These OTAs have excellent ease-of-handling characteristics. The Synta 150/Chromacor, however, has fast cool down time compared to virtually any other 6 inch OTA.

Simply putting, this is the best accessory you can buy for your large achromat. I have it on the 6" Synta, and the reduction in chromatic aberration must be seen to be believed! The image is so sharp and with VERY low secondary color, that I would dare to say that I now have a 6" APO for a ridiculously low price. It's not cheap, but it has the largest bang for the buck I've ever seen!

Eliminates all in-focus false color on Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon with a 120mm Synta (Orion Skywatcher), at up to 400x when optimized by correctly spacing and aligning the optical axis of the unit. Corrects residual spherical aberration as well. The chromacorr is a marvel of optical engineering.

Aries Chromacor
The Aries Chromacor is a lens group made from exotic glass formulas that is designed to sit between the primary objective of a fast achromatic refracting telescope and the eyepiece. It does the seemingly impossible. It refocuses the visible light spectrum in such a way as to bring all of it to a single focal point, just as is done in much more expensive apochromatic refracting telescopes.

This means that if you combine a $750 150mm Chinese achromatic refractor with a Chromacor, you will get the effective equivalent of a typical $10,000 or more apochromatic refractor.

The Chromacor was designed for fast (about f8) achromatic refracting telescopes from about 100mm to 150mm.

Seeing is believing!

I have now a 6" Apochromatic Refractor for only $1.500 with a sturdy mount and dual drive. An awesome package for such low money. My scope turns other kind of fine optics thanks of Chromacor. The Gas giants reveals now greater detail and allows for much more magnification. It's the best accesory that I've bought.
