...And now for the rating. See my rating comments under the 5.5mm as everything I state there is true for this eyepiece as well. The performance is certainly very nice but eye relief is getting too close for comfort. I frequently found myself backing away from the view slightly so I didn't get the eye smashed against the eyepiece feeling, which only serves to further limit an already smallish AFOV. In practice this isn't as bad as it seems as at the magnification this eyepiece provides you are most likely doing double star or planetary observation where FOV isn't nearly so important (assuming a driven mount).

I will rate this eyepiece an 8 for the reasons stated under the 5.5mm review with the extra notch down for disapointing eye relief. I would certainly recomend this eyepiece as a good performer, but the price of admision seems a bit steep for what you get. With that in mind, I would also suggest trying the UO or Pocono 4mm ortho before buying this eyepiece. These do have *very short* eye relief (3-4mm) but allegedly the "volcano top" makes them easy to use despite this and probably perform about the same for half the cost.

Great eye relief for 3.6 mm. Compare with Meade 5 mm series 3000 or with 6.3 mm Plossl. Far sharper than other designs with more glass interfaces. It works fine with my refractor.

This is one great eyepiece for short focal length scopes. Saturn looks very large, sharp and very contrasty with this ep using a Meade 6600 scope with perfect and well collimated optics. 6" f/5 I am very much prepared for the Mar opposition now that I have it. It is threaded for filters and the eye relief is more than adequate. There is no ghosting or flare or scattering plus the contrast is very high- much better than using a Barlow.
