Antares Speers-Waler WA 10
My scope is a 10 inch f/4.8 newtonian. I've only had this eyepiece 2 weeks but am very impressed with it. I am only rating the optics a 9 as I haven't had a good look at any planets, otherwise it might be higher. It does a fantastic job on deep sky objects. The closest equivalent eyepiece I have to compare it with is a 12 MM Nagler 2. They both are very sharp across the field of view. As far as light throughput, both are very close. This eyepiece is a keeper it's performance is up in the same league as my 12mm Nagler and 6MM Radian. I thought that the 5 inch height would be a problem, but it doesn't bother me. It's fairly lightweight and doesn't have balance issues.

Just wanted to add how happy I am with this eyepiece. The last time I went out, I used this instead of the 12 Nagler 2.
This ep is one of the best astronomy purchases I've made, and I've changed the optics rating to a 10.

In direct comparison with a 12 Nagler 2, I have to give a slight edge to the Nagler. On M35, the stars were just a tad sharper with the Nagler. Looking at M110, the contrast seemed very slightly to favor the Nagler also. This is still an excellent ep that is considerably lighter than the Type 2. As a result, I downgraded the optics to a 9, but the value is still a 10

I wanted an inexpensive wide field eyepiece and heard of the Speers line, a friend bought the 10mm 72 degree and let me try it. I really like the wide sharp field esp. compared to my 11mm TV Plossl so when the 10mm 82 degree version was released I bought a used one on astromart. The origonal 10mm, which they still make, has 16mm eyerelief while the 82* has 12mm eyerelief. The new version is a little shorter and @ 300g's its 20 g's lighter. I've used it in my 80mm f5, 8-inch f6 and clubs 17.5 f4.5, sharp and good contrast over the entire field. The eyepiece is 5-inches long so much bigger then many other designs, but I like this as my face doesn't feel like it's pushing up against the side of a tube.

Current retail price is $119 USD vs. $280 for a Nagler.
I've recommended this eyepiece to others and they have been very happy as well.

I've since purchased the Speers Waler 5-8 zoom & 14mm WA.

Antares Speers-Waler WA 10
My scope is a lx200gps 10" f/10. i compared this EP to the meade super possl 4000 9.7mm and 6.4mm and a TV radian 10mm. I did test this alone and use a 2x celestron ulitma short barlow to see how it barlowed. I had never heard of one of these until someone told me to try it out and see.The SW10mmWA is 250x in my scope(500x)barlowed.
When i went to the store i was very suspicious to put money on something i had never heard of before. After talking to the sales guy a while he told me to take it home and try it out and bring it back if i didn't like it. OK i said(what did i have to loose?) He then gave me a 10mm radian and told me to compare it to that(of course i had to leave my visa in case i didn't bring it back). I tested it out using saturn and mars and stars in orion.
So i tested out the SW10mmWA against ,,,,,,,,, radian 10mm / meade super plossl 9.7mm /6.4mm
RESULT : i was sold on the SW10mmWA in about 10 secds. It was clear and sharp from center to edge and no visible distortions. It compared very well to the radian(the radian was a little bit better) but not $200 cdn better. This is a keeper unless i can ever afford a Nagler or Pentax XW. I did return the radian, and for beeing so nice to me i am going to him to buy a panoptic in the 27mm i think.
Try one you will like it .........make sure you get the 10mmWA NOT the 10mm
