Akira
Katsuhiro Otomo's masterpiece! I really enjoyed the movie and the manga (comic) is exceptional. Also, try Otomo's Domu: A Child's Dream manga. Wicked!
Back 2 Akira. Outstanding animation! And when the city is being destroyed at the end, wow! I didn't realise how incredibly realistic it was until the Twin Towers tragedy. NE1 who hasn't yet seen it, what r u waiting 4? Experience anime at it's best.

Yup, Akira is one of the best. I'm glad you think so too! ^_^
I have never read Otomo's Domu: A Child's Dream before, but I'm pretty curious now! *^_~*

Akira
The best animation ever, rivaled only by Ghost in the Shell. The story is a masterpiece-it rivals any movie or novel out there. Of course, some people's attention span can't handle it.

Akira
This is an extraordinary film. The animation is surpassed only by Miyazaki's Mononoke Hime. I find it remarkable that for all its noise and thunder, it retains a great deal of subtlety. All of its main themes are understated, which is perhaps why some criticize it for being either too cryptic or plotless.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the mastery of subtle gestures and expressions of the characters. Even during the non-action scenes, the characters are completely in motion, like "live" actors. (This does NOT happen in Ghost in the Shell, which is why I prefer Akira). Dig the way Kaneda and Tetsuo communicate non-verbally. Only in the very best Miyazaki or perhaps Diznee will you find more carefully animated characters.

I truly hope someone reads this. Maybe if I throw in an obscenity or two, I'll get a response...

Hell, Damn, Fart!

Akira
Let me start this review by saying this: I will not just give you a couple sentences on how good or bad this movie is. I'm going to give you a very detailed review instead.

First off, the animation is spectacular. If you only buy this movie for the animation, you'll be getting more than your money's worth. The animation is seamless and kicks Disney's ass anyday.

The characters are vibrant, funny and interesting. Tetsuo is probably the most interesting, though. Even though he is the bad guy, you really hope that one day he'll stop being pushed around.

The most interesting part of the whole video is the story. The story breaks new ground in terms (although Ghost in the Shell had a much better story) and makes you think throughout the whole thing. Of course, if you're a 10 year-old with the attention span of a two-year old, the only thing that will appeal to you is the rape scene. Then you'll cry about it being too confusing and watch Ninja Scroll over and over again. You assholes know who you are. If you're too immature to realize that Akira was in the story and that the whole thing is one amazing thrill ride, then fuck off and don't buy this video. If you can understand the meaning of this whole anime and can't live without it, then I agree with you. Oh, and by the way, go to "http://www.angelfire.com/nb/bradn/akira.html" for a full review of this wonderful anime.

Akira
This is a classic anime. Akira was made back in 1988 and it still has the best animations out there (along with Ghost in the shell). The plot of the movie is a mix of science fiction, pshychological dilemmas, shocking reality, and action. It is the kind of anime that could compete with the Hollywood superproductions at the genre of shocking story. But, I think that the anime is a form of art more advanced than cinematography, because it can deliver dramatic emotions to everyone, from kids to adults, with super cool stories and characters at first sight. But Akira follows the standard of cinematography, with a little cool-anime look, and it has to be seen more than once to be liked in its full extention. Akira achieved everything it looked for, but still canĀ“t compete with other more cool-at-first-sight anime.

Akira
The first time I ever experienced Akira, I saw about twenty seconds of it
(part of the sewer chase sequence and the weird ending bit) and the images
just stuck in my mind. I remember thinking at that time "I gotta see that movie sometime". When I finally did watch all of it (about two years later) I was
just as impressed as I thought I would be, and I went out and bought it. This
film is deeper and more powerful than it looks on the surface. It's not just
a trip into another manga-based gorefest. (There isn't that much violence in it, anyway - no more than your average Quentin Tarantino film). Akira has more than one message hidden inside of it's glossy, kick-ass animated exterior. Admittedly, the storyline is a little hard to follow at first, but the film stands up well to repeated watching - and the characters are intriguing enough.
This was the first Japanese anime film I saw - and it got me hooked on them. If you've never seen an anime film before, rent this one first. If you're into anime but you've never seen this - where the hell have you been?!
Definitely a classic.

Akira
It's kinda funny when people insult each other over anime! C'mon, people, it's just entertainment!! Anyways, the animation is just fantastic, even for our day! The story, although lacking the amount of action-to-movie-length ratio that I usually like, is interesting. You can always see in an anime if the creators were painstakingly doing their best in their work, or just trowing together a some pictures and sound to make a quick buck. Akira is definately one that the writer, director, animators, voice actors(Japanese cast), designers, all busted their butts to produce. One word of caution, though; avoid the English-dubbed version at all costs!!!

Akira
Akira is the greatest Anime ever. It had amazing animation, great story line (after you see it a few times), and has a theme, unlike most anime. Violence was a bit over done but i think that was required to show what kind of an enviorment the directory was trying to display. It also mixed science fiction with current technology, wich i thought was very cool. Subtitle version deserves a 10 and the dubbed a 7.

Akira
This is a masterpiece. Akira is one of those films that leaves you with your mouth open. Not only because of it's spectacular animation, but it's epic conclusion. This is an animation I saw at the wee age of 9 and I have watched continuously into the age of 14 as of August 9. The way the characters move and look portray their personalities perfectly. The ability of director Katsushiro Otomo to portray a character with movement alone is given only through animation. Watching this move you become wise to new ways to watch animation. The plot and attention to detail becomes more prominent with every viewing, as you will always see something new. The ones who hate this film are too unintellectual to sit for 2 minutes with out violence.
