This company is a total shambles. They shipped me a defective Sony DirecTV/Tivo unit. A call to Sony tech support revealed that the unit had already been registered with Sony - Abt Electronics had sold me a used unit as new. Contacting Abt customer support I finally got the return manager to agree to issue a refund - they wanted to do only an exchange, and I was obviously not eager to continue to do business with them after this event. One month later, the refund had still not been received. Today I got a call from them telling me that my exchange had been shipped - despite the clear promise from the return manager to issue a refund.

This company is untrustworthy and does not deserve your business.

I ordered a home theatre system from Abt last November. It's a JBL system,N24 speakers, center channel, subwoofer and a Yamaha (RXV596) receiver. Paid around $1300 for it plus a couple of hundered in speaker stands and wirings. Love the system. Salesman was great. No pressure selling. Only drawback was that when I showed up at the counter (at the back of the store) to pick up my system, they told me they were out of sub-woofers. The whole time I was selecting, when I bought and paid for the system, I was told that everything is in stock. Anyway, they did knock off a couple of hundred dollars from the original price so I am not too upset. Had to make a second trip a week later to pick up the sub-woofer. Would go business again with them. :)

I bought a Sony Digital Camcorder DCR-TRV10 by phone from Joe B. Abt was competitive on price compared to the internet stores (not the highest or lowest), shipping rates were low, and very important to me -- customer service was exceptional. Also important -- their warranty and repair policies are superior. The camcorder arrived on time in 2 business days and works wonderfully. Digital tape, tripod and bag were free. I would buy from Abt & Joe again. Abt is a reliable store that has served consumers for 60 years.

After having a good experience with Abt on a previous purchase I gave them a call as I was looking for a Phillips Pronto Remote to round out my system. This was another "hot" product that is not in great supply. Abt not only had it (and the optional charger unit) but they quoted the best price I had seen on the Net right off the bat. I called around 3:00pm their time and asked if they could still overnight the product. The salesman (Ted) called back shortly to confirm shipment and the remote arrived the next day. Great remote by the way.

I came across ABT on this board and decided to give call them after seeing the Toshiba SD-9000 (DVD) I was looking for on their site. I called late Thursday morning (5/6) and they had them in stock. They matched the lowest price I had seen (Netmarket believe it or not) and shipped it out UPS next day air. It was waiting on my porch when I got home Friday (they couldn't ship to an alternate address). Good service + good price + good web site + established retailer + delivery as promised = 10 = repeat customer!

Just ordered a Yamaha RX-V995 through them. Got the unit for $867 ($857 + $10 shipping), which is BY FAR the best price I found. I live in Dallas, and no stores here had them in stock and all wanted $1000 for this unit. Ordering was quick and simple. Scott (I think) took my order over the phone on a Monday afternoon, and told me the receiver should be at my door Friday. Lo and behold, it came Friday afternoon, just as he said.

Next time I need something for my home theater, I'll use my local stores to
try out the equipment, but I'll more than likely buy from ABT!!!

I live in the area and have dropped around $5000 in the store in the last 3 years buying large appliances and A/V equipment. They have the best prices in the Chicago area. The price quotes over the phone are the lowest and are honored in the store. Returns are processed with no questions asked. Salesmen are knowledgable and helpful.
I recently purchased a Yamaha RXV995 receiver. The price quoted on the phone was lower than Uncle's. But when I got to the store I was told that I should never have been quoted that price because Yamaha sets a price floor to prevent cut-throat pricing ($857) and they could lose their Yamaha dealership if Yamaha found out. They honored the price after they verified the quote with the phone salesman. Either this is the truth or it was just an act to keep me from trying to get a lower price than the phone quote. For this, I give them a 9.
