This series is still available in its original form in Japan on DVD. You cant buy them in the States though and you need a Region 1 player to view them. I know that people have voiced their hopes that english-dubbed 8th Man will be broadcast on TeeVee again someday, but I can assure you that it never will. For several reasons the first and foremost being that it is unlikely that a full set of 16mm prints in top condition exists today. That is how this program was originally broadcast on telecine projectors from 16mm motion-picture film. You would need a full set (52 eps) in excellent condition to produce tapes for todays TV/CATV systems. Next the series is B/W and that hurts its revival too. And third the "smoking" scenes of 8th Man getting recharged would be considered politically incorrect and harmful to children :)

So, dont count on ever seeing it on TV again - look for the few eps that have been put on videotape...thats all your going to get.

This is a classic cartoon with great start/stop animatiom (the way cartoons used to be made.) Fascinating plots betwqeen good and evil and the obsession of using power to generate one's selfish ways. In the end 8th man prevails against insurmountable odds. It is quite existential also in its premise in that 8th man is half robot and half man. He is always in a quandry as to whether he should continue with his fate and accept it or give up. Some old cornball characters but 8th man's foes are vintage bad guys sprinkled with amazing, ingenios weapons and imagination that exceeds its era.Far, far ahead of its time. If you dont think so, do a brain check and see the popular ripoff of 8th man "Robocop". He wouldn't last 10 seonds against Tobor The 8th Man.

This was the best animae for all time for me ..it's been almost 40 years ago since I first saw it and I still love this animae..in fact I bought some of the DVD's for old times sake and my son who is now age 12 loves it also ..this shows how good it was and way ahead of its time.

I am very suprised to see this site on 008thman. I really used to love this cartoon. He could change into any one and he was lightning fast. I remember as a kid I used to imitate his running style by arching my back over and keeping my toes together and holding my right arm back on my right side with my fist clenched and my left arm would be held parallel to the ground a few inches from my waist with fist clenched also in a knuckles up position, then I would move my knees and legs back and forth with vibrating speed but remaining fixated to the ground with no true foward motion and then I used to make a sound that was similar to what it sounded like when he would run from one spot to another. It was something like this FERRROWTSH!! rolling the R's and a hard accent on the TSH!!! Of all the old cartoons amazing three, gigantor, felix, I would be exhilarated if somehow those series of 008th man could return to television. I am no a trekie but I did watch all of the original Star Tek episodes over and over and I would watch 008th in this same way. I loved that cartoon and I have thought about it from time to time at different stages of my still youthful life. It would be beyond nostalgic to see it on TV again. Is 10 the highest rating if so 008thMAN gets 10 to the nth degree.

I was 8 when the originals aired. I have to admit that there was one episode where this dolphin saves 8th man and then somehow dies by sacrificing himself. Hell, I got so emotional over it I cried. I can't say any other show had such content.

For the time, the animation was adaquate. Then again, we were watching on a 25" B&L that needed a good slam on the side every day or so. So if you want to rate it on today's standard, it stunk. But back then all Jap. anime had basically the same quality.

I'm sure if I saw an episode today it wouldn't be the way I remember it, but it was the best in as a kid.

Animation, eh...story line, pretty violent stuff...but that Tobor! I should know. I was the voice of the 8th Man for all 52 (someone else said there were 56) black and white episodes. Just happened to find your Tobor site, and many others, and I must say I'm really amazed at the interest in the series. A classic? Never would have guessed.
