Double Double
This what I used to use to test the seeing and the alignment of my Off Axis Dob last summer. Now that I've gotten better at keeping the opics clean and alignment I use Rigel and Zeta Ori considering it is Winter. Anyway the double double is a good test for optics and looks awesome.

Rather dependent on seeing. The double-doubles are not that esasy to spilt if under 100x is used.
Requires fairly decent optics anyhow.

they are ideal test stars for telescope lovers living in the Northern hemishere. Usually, I can split them by 3.5' Questar standard and 12mm Brandon .Of interest, most department store 2.4" Japanese achromatic reflectors (over F 12)can split them if high quality 0.965 eyepieces were used.(Pentax, Zeiss, Takahashi etc.)

Very cool in a wide field eyepiece, like the Nagler 31.

Amazing in my 120mm refractor. It is a good test for any moderately sized telescope and generally just a good object to view. I use to to test the sharpness and contrast of any new EP I get.
