I saw Omega Centauri with the naked eye and binoculars on a dark, moonless night from central Australia in the southern winter. Next to the southern winter Milky Way, the most fabulous astronomical sight I have seen.

An incredible sight if you get a chance to view it. If you are at a dark sky site, it is EASILY viewable to the unaided eye. More promenent than the Andromeda Galaxy or even the Great Orion Nebula.

A correction. Omega Centauri is magnitude 3.7 (NOT 5.0)! Makes a big difference in one's expectations if they've never seen it before.

By far the most outstanding object i have viewed in a telescope. It blows you away if you get far enough south to resolve it. It was well worth the 15 hour drive to the Everglades to view it. It is magical when viewed over water. An 8 in C8 did wonders while a 6 in Criterion dynascope couldn't resolve it.

Omega Centauri
I viewed this magnificent globular for the first time in 6/01 with Celestron C5. I had traveled to Zimbabwe Africa for the total solar eclipse. In the very dry, transparent skies of Hwange National park Omega was simply AWESOME. Puts to shame its northern cousins M13 & M22.

The best globular cluster viewable from the N. Hemisphere! Shows well in my 8" SCT with 40mm Konig 70-degree- even better when barlowed with the same eyepiece! Magnificent object.

Omega Centauri
I used to live in the same region as the Anglo-Australian Telescope, and the dark-sky views of the Great Omega Cluster were simply awe-inspiring! My old 10" reflector would bo focussed on it night after night. Only 47 Tucanae can come close. I live in Japan now, and long to see my old favorite again. It scarcely rises above the horizon from here!
