Astronomics
A lot of people ask me for references to astro dealers - which ones I do business with. Of all the dealers out there, Astronomics is my favorite. Pricing is competitive with other new dealers (sometimes a little better, sometimes not, but it all washes out eventually). Their service and support, however, FAR EXCEEDS any other dealer I've done business with. They have REAL amateur astronomers working there that REALLY understand the products and their customers' needs - not just sales staff to move boxes. You can pick up the phone and call Mike or Pete and get courteous, knowlegeable service. Why do you think Astronomics is the only authorized US dealer for Thomas Back's (TMB) products? It isn't because they're the biggest (though they're probably close), but because they're the best. Let me put it this way: I *live* in Oklahoma, and I have to pay sales tax for anything I order from Astronomics... and I'd rather *pay the tax* and get the excellent and courteous service from Astronomics than go to another "big" dealer that's out-of-state and save the tax but not be treated as well...

I had not bought anything from Astronomics until this week, but I had contacted a few years ago wanting help choosing my 2nd telescope. They sent me a huge package of information that was very helpful. I did not buy from them because I found one of the telescopes I was looking at on sale very cheap somewhere. But I did not forget how helpful Astronomics was.

When I heard the news that Lumicon had gone out of business, Astronomics was the first place I checked for their filters. I found that their price was the cheapest, and they were the only ones I could find that still had the filters I wanted in stock. I did not order quick enough to get an OIII, but I did get a DeepSky. I ordered over the phone, and the person I talked to was EXTREMELY friendly. Any astro-equipment that I can't get from Orion (IE, high-end stuff), I will most definitely go with Astronomics.

Have made four to six purchases from these folks in the past year. Never tried haggling on price, so I can only give them a middle of the road "5" in that category. Every order was executed flawlessly.

Astronomics has one of the most useful dealer websites to be found. There are some gems of wisdom burried in the "more details" sections of the items descriptions. It's more than just an online catalog. Some of the eyepiece advice seems to lean towards the agressive in terms of what is regulary useful, but then we all have our own definition of what constitutes normal seeing conditions.

Astronomics is also very responsive to emails - usually within 24 hours. One word of caution here: the advice you get via email is real-time, but their website isn't. In one case they recommended a product that wasn't listed yet on their website. I feel kind of bad having given that order to somone else, only to see the item show up on their website at a later date. If in doubt, call.

I purchased numerous equipment from Astronomics over the years. Most recently, a Tak FSQ106, G-11 and SBIG ST10. As always, they are helpful and friendly. Moreover, they always return email and phone call!!

I have been buying stuff the last year from many on-line vendors. This vendor is one of the top 2 (the other is Orion's site). They contact me personally if any question about order, they ship promptly, they have a very good web site and product selection...

I have bought quite a few items from Astronomics and can say that I have not had one problem with them.Friendly and helpful and if you are a member of cloudy nights website (free to sign up) they give you a discount on any purchase

In my dealings with Astronomics, I've found them to be very helpful and flexible. They respond quickly and effectively to inquiries. Their claim to match competitors' lowest prices is not just a claim - they do it. Quick shipments, good prices, attentive service; I wish I could be this positive about all of my buying experiences.

Bought my 1st really good bino from Fred and the Astronomics gang about the time Halley's Comet showed up and hv turned there ever since whenever I need something else (or maybe want is a better word). That has amounted to 7 more binos, a scope & 3 eyepieces. Have occasionally gotten stuff elsewhere, but haven't found another dealer as knowledgable, helpful or competitive. In fact, I think they've forgotten more about optics matters (be it astromony or birding) than most other folks in the business will ever know. I've also taken friends there (I live close by) for their purchases and they hv all been very satisfied. All in all, there might be a very few other outfits as good over all, but certainly none any better.
