Nothing anywhere near the price range can touch it. Image quality is comparable to 5.2 XL and 5 Tak LE, but without the comfortable eye relief of course. Still eye relief is not so bad; better than any 5mm plossl. Contrast/sharpness is beat ONLY by super-premium orthos (Zeiss, Pentax) which are obscenely expensive used. If you can observe at high mag without glasses, and have a tracking mount, it is hard to justify anything else besides the UO orthos (includes 4, 6 and 7mm also). A little sensitive to eye position due to internal reflections. A little "brighter" than other EP's in this focal range, but I'm not sure if this is an illusion or actually represents better throughput.

Sharp, bright images in my 8" f/6 DOB. Great EP for the price. Wouldn't part with any of my UO orthos.

Very good eyepiece. It produces very sharp picture in whole visual field with wonderful contrast. It has better eye profile than standard plőssel. I think it increases secondary color in my refractor TAL100RS although only a negligible (I compare its with superplőssel TAL f=10mm and 2x barlow TAL).

A truely amazing eyepiece, for this price. Just with all orthos, eyerelief can be ignored, but detail and contrast is excellent. the only issue is some light scatter viewing bright objects not centered in the fov.

The UO 5 mm orthoscopic, which I use with a 150mm maksutov-cassegrain (MK 67 standard)gives good resolution and good contrast. On a recent night of 6 or 7 stability on a scale of 10 and with a ZULM of 4th magnitude, views of the globular clusters M3 in Bootes and M13 in Hercules (360X, 61X per inch) were very impressive. Inky dark background. The stars of the clusters appearing as a bunch of diamonds scattered on a black sand beach. This eyepiece was new. The view with this eyepiece was better than those given with ten year old 7mm and a 4 mm orthos from a large dealer/manufacturer.

Very fine eyepiece. Relatively comfortable to use despite the short eye relief because the eye lens is mounted at the top of a truncated cone instead of at the bottom of a rubber eyeguard. Loses a bit of sharpness at the edge in an f6.6 refractor. Also not quite as much contrast as a 5mm Pentax SMC ortho. But a great buy for the money, well worth having in your eyepiece case.

10" f/4.5 Dob. This eyepiece is a great high power performer. Pinpoint stars, excellent contrast on planets. Tight eyerelief, but ok for non-eyeglass users.

This is a great EP for the money,How does U.O. do it?I would much rather use the Ortho's on the planets and moon over most other EP designs,FOV is narrow but image sharpness and brightness are 2nd to none,save some money and try these U.O. Ortho's you can't go wrong!!!!!

Used this eyepiece with a Tak FS 102, extremely sharp images of Jupiter and Saturn, Blew away the vixen lantham 4mm (I returned it)

Use the eyepiece with an f/6 Newtonian. Completely sharp to the edge. No distortion e.g. by placing Saturn half way out of the field. Excellent eyepiece for close doubles. Minimal loss of light.
