Sony VPL W400Q
really quite amazing and versatile unit. excellent film-like quality for dvd/ld. much better than other projectors demo'd in terms of pixellization and contrast; extremely minimal screen door effect. can convert 2:3 ld images to 16:9 wide screen. good color reproduction and no noticable laziness inherent to lcd. extremely simple to set up and connect, even for tv broadcast (using vcr as tuner). easily portable unlike your average rear projector. incredible 200 inch image!
fan noise can be detected in softer passages, but easily masked by a good 5.1 soundtrack at minimal pressure. replacement bulbs are rather dear (340.00) and the unit is currently discontinued in favor of the vpl10.
great picture and good price, what more can you ask for. i would buy this again in a heartbeat, if i could find one!

I just got this projector, and am thrilled with it. For the money, it is hard to beat. Definitely check it out if you want a "movie" experience rather than just watching TV.

Sony VPL W400Q

Easily the best projector on the market for the price. I have only had it for one week and I have no regrets. Watching widescreen DVD's is absolutley spectacular.

My only complaint is the visible scan lines with vertical motion and the noise.

Take off 2 points for lack of progressive input and the fan noise.

Accidentally, 7 appeared as my rating. This projector deserves a 10!!!
That's what I had meant to put, but scrolling with my scroll mouse changed the rating from 10 to 7. Sorry.
Make no mistake, the Sony VPL-W400Q LCD video projector, is the best for watching DVDs!!!

Sony VPL W400Q
I have been looking into different options of setting up my home theatre, I found Sony VPL W400 is exceptionally good in visual image and price, it is actually cheaper than a lot of big screen rear projector tvs. However, I cannot understand why Sony does not do more promotion on this projector. This is the only LCD projector (as far as I know) that can do anarmorphic function. I use this projector to watch tv programs as well as other movie materials.

The only complain I have about this projector is the video input selector, only two sets: one is for composite/S video and the other for RGB/Component input. The problem is with composite/S video, once you connect both S video and composite, it will select S video. In my case it creates a problem because I have Super video recorder and a laser disc player(without S video output), so I have to use composite output all the time.

My rating of 8 is becuase of the restricted input option, not the image quality, I personally believe the image quality is superp.
