Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble
I want to say that the post on top of this post is mine. I wane to supply to my previous post. The above post was rated based on the "old Ensemble". I just found out lately that there was an old Ensemble 6ohm and the new Ensemble is 8 ohm. I brought the old Ensemble back and got the new one. The satelite of the new Ensemble due to an 8ohm which most receivers expecting to drive sounds louder and better than the old Ensemble. Louder means more power handling. They sounds good. The passive subwoofers now produces more bass than the old version. Overall, the new Ensemble performs better than the old version in term of power handling and nothing more. The old one sounds just as good as the new one. I really want to say some good words for Cambridge Sound Works because this was my first time shopping at Cambridge Sound Works but I am very happy with them. They are pretty nice. They allow me to bring the old Ensemble back and get the new one without any problem after 2 months. The speakers include the CenterStage and the Suround speakers sounds INCREDIBLY GOOD. For around 1500$, I got all the speakers which I need and they really make me very happy. If someone is about to shop for a DVD player with all the speakers, you can try CSW, you will not be disappointed. The price is good and the people there is extremely nice and helpful. The last thing I want to say is I do not work for CSW. If you have any question then email me at tanguyen@lynx.neu.edu

These Ensemle speakers include 2 satelite and 2 passive 8 inch subwoofer. The satelite sounds incredible. However, if you turn too loud, the speaker won't sound good but tend to roar, not distort though. I can't blame them. They are small. My bedroom is small so I turn more than loud but not too loud. The 8 inch subwoofers produces weak bass. What I did was I took my car subwoofer which has 2 10 inch sub and took two "bass crossover" part from these 8 inch woofers and put in my two 10 inch subwoofer. And the result was I got much more bass so I do not need to buy an active subwoofer. I got huge UMmmmm. Overall, Cambridge spesakers are awesome. I got Center Channel speaker from them as well as the surround sound speakers. Cambridge S Works speakers are very well-built and qualified. I love the Center channel speaker and the surround sound speakers. They sound so good. I am saving money to buy the two towers speakers from them to replace my 2 satelite speakers. I do not need to buy them since my room is small. But I want to buy them for complete sound perfection.

While you could probably find a better speaker for the price, these speakers sound pretty good. I've heard costlier speakers that don't sound as good. As a college student who lives in a dorm, a sub/sat system was my best option for a high quality sound system. Sure you could probably buy two satelite speakers for about 300 to 400 dollars that would sound better, but how much more would you have to spend to get two passive 8 inch subs (Both satalites and subs have crossovers so you have maximum wiriing options.) About the only fault I have with these speakers is that they begin to loose sound quality at about 90 decibels and distart at about 95 decibels. Not too bad for a 4 inch midrange.

I have had my Ensemble speakers for ten years now. They still sound like they did when i bought them-GREAT! You can buy a better sounding speaker but you will have to spend three times the price of the Ensemble to do it. These speakers do something a lot of the more expensive ones can not-sound musical. No other speaker, at their price point sounds half as good. Many times, I have thought of replacing them just for the sake of up-grading. It, somehow, makes one feel guilty to be enjoying the music coming out of inexpensive speakers. I have auditioned a lot of speakers toward this end. I have purchased AVA electonics which is very good stuff. Guess what, the Ensembles sound better than ever. To get a better sound, I will have to spend five times what I paid for the Cambridge Soundworks speakers. I may do that at some point but the Ensemble is a great speaker system and I would reccomend it to anyone who wants to hear music reproduced accurately and pleasantly but doesn't really care to leave inflated price tags on their equipment.

Ok to buy if you're on a real tight budget, and I mean real tight and you dont have a nickle to spare and you want music NOW. Dorm room stuff, not to be taken seriously. If you think you might really want to LISTEN to music, then put this money toward something better (say NHT) and you wont have to upgrade (so soon). Sorry to be so critical, but I read the "you cant get a better system for under a thousand dollars" BS reviews and would not like to see anyone elce so duped.
