only reason for the 8 is a little bit lacking in the low end. Speaker placment is critical

Exceptional detail, very clear and crisp, which I quite like. I'm using the rotel ra-1060 integrated, and a sony 300disk, run thru the perpetual P3A DAC. the sound is nothing less than jaw-dropping. They are bass-lite, which is to be expected. I'll take the dynamics and control of a standmounter anyday, over a heavy-handed floorstander with more bass. When I add a sub (looking at Velodyne HGS-12, martin logan depth, or B&W AWS 750) my system will be complete!
Looks I gave only 8, becouse I like the looks of the new 705's better, but I've heard them, and while nice, I'll keep my CDM's!!!

I just got my pair, moving up from a pair of B&W 602s. Since I have not listened to a lot of speakers in this price range it is a bit arrogent of me to vote. Take what I say for what it is worth. As a novice, I am incredibly impressed! I did not expect nearly this much improvement in my system from a speaker! Granted, they are still breaking in. The sound is a bit forward, a tad harsh, if not a bit bass light. That said, Even with these short commings, the soundstage is amazing-deep and focused.voices are full and natural sounding, and the mix of voices and instruments have good separation, seeming a whole while having realistic dimensions. clarity is outstanding! Their build is most impressive to someone who has been the budget budget route. I could not believe the solidity and heft of these speakers, thinking the dealer who delivered them to my car on a dolly really squeezing the moment for all its worth. This was much more speaker than I expected to get. Lastly, these speakers are part of a system that includes a Denon integrated amplifier and Rotel cd player, and from all I had read about the CDM 1nts revealing nature I expected to get the full report/sad truth. Well, I am in no doubt that I am hearing it, but I am still unbelievably pleased. Hopefully if this means if I upgrade more thoughtfully than I started out, the rewards could beyond anything I could conceive presently.Very lastly and finally-if my rating in naive, over enthusiastic.shhh....

Very picky on equipment.
You'll need to feed it with a good amp and good CD-player.

Not a forgiving speaker, it requires very good recordings and an amp and cd-player in the same price range to shine, but when it shines it bring tears of joy to your eyes.

I have a pair of CDM1s and haven't looked back. They are just about run in and the bass extension has improved noticeably over time.

Yes you need to combine it with a good quality amp and sound source. I've teamed them up with an old Luxman Brig after trying many modern solid state amps. If the budget stretches try a Classe amp. With both these types of amps they speakers stand out with good, but not overbearing presences, excellent detail and a an obviously flat and extended range.
