Hi,
Ive got a pair of these of ebay MK1 and they were are alright. Ive recently upgraded to Ruark Sceptre (also of ebay) and they are much better. Ive heard the MK111 and they are splendid. My amp is Arcam Alpha 10 and 10P, Cable is VDH, CD is Arcam. Not hi-end stuff but not lo-fi, I call it Mid-fi ;). I got them used with a few dings. Not offense looking if they were new. Not the biggest cab in speaker history but size isnt anything (I think?) Bass isnt the greatest. Highs and Mid are alright. I dont think I'd buy the MK1 again, but would love a pair of MK111. Did I mention the MK111's are splendid?

Superb imaging and high levels of detail. The speakers require higher end ancillory gear - forget running mediocre or low powered amps with the AE1s. They are also stand critical, the purpose-built but pricey AE stands being the best, and don't like being placed too close to walls. When set up properly and used with well-matched front end gear the AE1s can produce jaw dropping levels of dynamics, accuracy and neutrality (regardless of size). This is a two edged sword though: if a recording is crap, the AE1s will do nothing to enhance it - you'll hear crap. I've had my pair since 1990 and still can't bear to part with them (after three recones). I haven't found anything to trump them (at or near the price range) when it comes to mid-range dynamics with rock and jazz. Of course they're a bit shy on sheer quantity of low-end bass due to physical limitations, but they easily make up ground in other, more important areas.

Marvellous, expecially when combined with a descent Sub like the Rell Stadium.
