A good choice to get it from used market. Be careful this baby really needs a big current amplifier to dig out its potential. If possible, modify the crossover parts to a better qualifity ones(like substitue the alpha non-polarized capacitors to a Solen or even musicap), the SL6 will provide you the smooth sound you can live with for another 10 years or more.

I bought these for $40 at a yard sale about 8 years ago :^D I'm currently using them as front speakers in a surround setup with Harman Kardon AVR25 MkII receiver, DCM center, M&K V7 MKII sub and JBL in-walls for the rear. Very happy with the sound.

Just amazing speakers. I've owned them for 17 years and just bought Celestion A1's to replace them. Now I'm thinking about putting the SL6's back in my system! I miss their superior imaging, velvety sound, magical tweeter (mine are the original copper) and overall coherence. The A1's render classical music better (they have better dynamic range and bigger scale), and they also have more detail but I think the SL6's beat them overall. FYI, I've also recently had Totem Mani 2's ($4,000 minimonitors) and Nautilas 805's in my home and neither can touch the magical Celestion SL6.

I have owned this speaker for 16 years and can afford almost any speaker made. I've tried all the "great" small monitors in my home, from B&W Nautilaus 805(Bad spelling - I know)to Totem Mani 2 to Wilson Cub and NONE of them have the midrange magic of the SL6's original copper tweeter. I was dying to find something even better after 16 years with my Celestions but couldn't! The 805's had more detail, the Mani 2's had more bass and the Cubs were FAST and CRISP, but they could touch the SL6's in terms of overall magic. Sorry guys!.

If you are fortunate enough to find someone foolish enough to part with them, and you value the sound of music, with a soundstage you wont believe, get em!
You must place speaker on 16 inch stands, not 18, and cetrainly not 24!
Requires amp or receiver with balls.
Used with Sunfire subwoofer produces sound to die for!
Sunfire, Celestion combo has made every audiophile who has heard it envious!
Absolutely wild and wondrous imaging, so 3 dimensional it blows me away daily!

17 years on and my SL6 can see off the likes of B&W 601 and 602s. They don't make them like they used to. Won't part with them for anything. Given their staying capacity 10/10.
