Bose Acoustimass 10 Series II
The speakers meet my expectations of sound quality soundly (pun). The simple fact is quite a good quality sound comes from a very small and somewhat trtansparent product. I installed the cube array, as recommeded, above normal sight level (84" a.f.f); the subwolfer sits on the floor in a corner with the opening facing the wall of the television (these speakers are primarily for HT use). White speakers for the surround and a black for the center channel. The textured matte finish of the speakers reflects the ambiant light. The speakers seem to melt into the walls. Thus, their "big" sound, their high location, and their color, each contribute to the illusion of a transparent--yet clearly discernable--stereo sound source.

Cut the crap;
This system gives quite good sound, it just costs more because it's small.
Agreed, you can buy better speakers, but they will be more bulcky.
If you have, like me, little space to waiste they are a good solution.
Comments about one hearing the difference between one bass unit and two in other systems are over the top.
You might hear those differences but not on systems in this price range!
The system sounds good on low volume and gives sufficient bass for small rooms.
You have a bigger room? Just buy a larger system.

Stay as far away from these speakers as you can. My AM 10 sits in
the corner, and collects dust now, I not gonna sit here and tell you
why. But dont take my work for it, go to www.audioreview.com
and see what 181 people said about this system, you want the best.
go with Definitive Technologies Pro Cinema Series speakers, and a
15" ct-150 velodyne sub woofer. Now where talking.
BURNED ONCED, LEARNED ONCED.

Bose Acoustimass 10 Series II
For the price is very horrible from both quality in build and sound. The highs are rolled, mids colored and tiny, and the bass one-notey and not even low. I have heard at least 20-30 setups at various audio stores on various gear of the sub/sat phenomenon and the Bose by far is the worst for the money. Yes it can play louder than some but I prefer quality over quantity if the quantity is poor. The audible hole is so bad that the bass module is localized as if it was meant to be (subs should never reveal themselves). To give you an idea of how horrible this sounds, when a friend of mine's house was broken in (he had this and a Yamaha 5140) and he wanted to replace his system but only had $500 (until his renters issurance kicked in) to buy a system for the purpose of return. He bought at RS, since they had a sale, 3 pairs STS-10s and a SW-14P and he was amazed at how this blew away his former AM-10s (on a Pioneer AVR no less) for only $246 and had an extra sat to boot. To confirm his opinion he borrowed his sisters AM-10 (she bought one after he did) to A/B them. The sad fact was that his sister even noticed this sounded better; the bass was lower (still boomy), better highs, and mids were clearer. In both cases the sub was localizeable (of course with money saved you can add another sub) but the build quality was similar, and the price was vastly different. The only two advantages that the Bose had were name recognition among the uninitiated and appearance but definately not performance. When he received his insurance check, he picked up the Yamaha 1105 (really excellent) and retested these speakers with a stranger results: THE BOSE WAS NOTICIBLY WORSE. The one-notey bass and the localization of the bass module was even worse (we tried the corner bi-section, direct port fire to the front wall, and was forced to place the module behind the TV aimed at the wall to minimize localization), all mids became beamy, and the highs harsh and rolled off at the higher tops. The wierd part was that the RS setup the sub went lower with less boominess (though still boomy), mids cleared up even more, and the highs were somewhat bright and still slightly harsh. Even if the similar RS setup wasn't on sale ($386) it would still be half the price and you would be able to buy a better AVR, wires, and interconnects and end up having a superior system. Though I heard many systems similar to this and they all still had their weaknesses, none of them had all the characteristics bad in all categories just like the Bose. My advice to most of you is pick up an SPL meter/test discs from home (try to include the DVD Essentials if at all possible), adjust the positioning of speakers you go out to audition (toe-in angle, center channel tilt, and tweeters at ear level), calibrate their size/levels/distance (small if the fronts/center/rears are small and sub yes/no if present; levels since most places have these out of balance with either DVD/AVR test tones {and turn the gain of the subs to between 1/4 to 1/3 as most places have them maxed by idiots and amateurs}; and adjust distance to the rears since most of these are on switchers), and SIT DOWN because this is how you are going to be when you listen at home (most other companies have a horizontal dispersion control and are actually designed for the seated listening position, Bose is set up for standing auditions). If your wife, girlfriend, or significant other talks about the stupid "direct-reflecting sound" turn your back to them and explain that you insist on hearing their argument's 89% since Bose claim that the sounds you listen to are reflected back to you at a rate of 89% (then why do we turn in the direction of sound if according to Bose that if you are facing a sound that you only hear 11% of the performance?).

I am fairly pleased with the system. The sound from the speakers and subwoofer is not distorted at all at very high volume. I just want the base module to have a woofer input. Right now I think it takes it's base signals from the center channel input.

Haven't had them for that long yet but my initial thoughts are I don't like the way that there is no subwoofer input into the subwoofer. All speakers run from the receiver into the woofer and out from there. Because of this, some of the subwoofer features of my reciever are useless :( But I am very pleased with the output from the passive woofer when listening to a digital audio signal. I was afraid I would need to get a powered woofer to complement it. Not the best system for the price but I got an excellent deal on it.
