Infinity Prelude Comps.
They look like Hockey Sticks.
But make no mistake, these are probably one of the best speakers ever made.
They are easy to drive, dont need a magic amp or special cable either.
They image incredibly, as good as my Celestion SL-6, and as good as the b&w 801, and 802 I owned.
They are very smooth and non fatigueing, and reveal incredible inner detail without brightness.
I have assembled a 5 channel system using the prelude center and the P-QPS matching surrounds, and I am going 7.1 channel as soon as I can afford a used Denon 5800.
I use a Denon 3600 now.
I have an old Technics receiver I got from a pawnshop and it sounds just fine on the Preludes, But I got the Denon to impress my friends!
I TOTALLY agree with the Stereophile review.
I have owned Everything in the Audiophile world, Old Quads, Quad 63, Vandersteens, KEF 107,I could go on an on.
The preludes have set me free!
No more searching for that one special amp to make your poorly designed speakers come to life, or having your speaker cables polarized or blessed by the audio guru!
Thank you Doctor Toole for setting us free!!!
I really feel that when you add it all up, the prelude system is hard to beat.
In short, They image like an 801, have the smoothness of a Vandersteen, Crank like a Cerwin\Vega, and they REALLY are accurate.
I assure you, I am a die hard audiophile, and have been for 25 years.
I am finally doing something I seldom do.
I am buying music and DVD instead of looking for that "special" amp to make my pooorly designed speakers sound good.
So, if you want off the high end merry go round, and re tired of engaging in expensive mental masterbation, get yourself a pair of Preludes and be done.
Harmon Audio Outlet has some B stock pairs for less than a grand, as of 5-16=01.
If I would fault them, they look like Hockey sticks, exactly what you would expect from the crazy Canadiens that gave em life.
The sub woofer appears to be the limiting factor on the systems ultimate dynamic range.
I would have liked to see seperate L.F. input to the sub so I could throw a parametric EQ in the sub path and do a RABOS on em!
I have too much aydiophile left in me to EVER run my signal through an EQ.
Theres no BI wire input, even though my denon receiver has bi amp terminals, but who cares?
I really think its a bunch of bullshit anyway.
Some audiophiles may find the tonal balance a bit dull, especially if you are used to bright so called audiophile speakers such as THEIL, Klipsch and many others that claim to be transparent, but really are bright!
If thats the case, just turn up the treble, EH??
but once you get used to this level of accuracy, you will be able to hear the colorations of speakers you once considered good.
I really feel the Preludes are a triumph of science over bullshit.
You will love them!!!

The overall natural balance of these speakers is exceeded only by their imaging/soundstaging capabilities. I've had friends listen to these in a darkened room with their jaws dropped, placing out individual orchestral instruments. (Want a demo disk - try Fred Hersch Trio's "Passion Flower" - put on the title track - you can actually SEE the placement of the cymbals around the drum kit. Astounding. I do agree that you may want a sub for LF extension for movies - 12" woofers won't make it for Terminator 2. But for music...sheer joy.

Love absolutely everything about these speakers...except the front grilles which have the annoying habit of breaking off the retainer tabs. Was skeptical of what these speakers would produce and was pleasantly surprised. Plenty of bass, but I would recommend a sub for additional LFE in movies. The tonal quality is excellent and well balanced.

Highly recommended!

excellent imaging,hooked-up to Yamaha DSP-A1 I couldn't get it higher than 95db,without getting evicted.missing only highest high and bass approx 30hz? needs sub for LFE (.1), non-fatiguing,have been on marathon movie viewings + music listenings on weekends with guests in awe of this system's tonal clarity.also using RS5 for rears and US1 for front effects.
