I use the Super One XU (5 of them) for Home Theatre application. They really are good for the price. In terms of music, they do lose out on the finer details you can get from better transducers but, for the price point, you really should not complain about it. One note of caution is that they do require adequately powered amp to drive them well (in the region of at least 80W at 8 ohms).

My rated is conditioned largely on the very low and, IMO, out of sync with careful listening. I listen to a lot of Jazz. The Super Ones are simply a kitchen 3rd system. But when I go down to my main system at $30K plus I can immediately tell you about the law of very fast dimensioning returns in the areas of mid-range and treble detail and pace of the music. This is a musical speaker with very good fit and finish for the price.

Way too hot in upper bass/low midrange.

I am very happy with these speakers. Right out of the box, the treble is smooth but the midrange is veiled. A couple of days after, the mids open up and the bass gets more extended and tight. It has wide and deep soundstage (for the price) and its pinpoint imaging is the probably the best in its class. It is very revealing and it will uncover poor recorded CDs. (Amp: NAD 314 + CD: NAD 515 + Audioquest Turquiose Interconnect + Audioquest Type 6 speaker cable).

I've been very pleased with these speakers (using 5 + Sw2pi sub for a home theater setup). Sound is exceptionally clear and realistic. Listening to Denon surround test tracks makes you feel as if you're right in the middle of a rainstorm/airport runway/band, etc. I tested Klipsch (2.1 and 3.1), DefTech ProCinema, Take5, several different levels of JBL and Infinity, and the small home theater Polks offered by CircuitCity. These are BY FAR the best. I was amazed at the sound I heard in the listening room, but I was absolutely stunned at how good they sounded once I got them home. For my tastes, they are wonderful for music and home theater both. (By the way, try Uncle's Stereo for a good price).

The only thing I would like is for them to be a little louder (86db sensitivity eats up the power pretty well).

I purchased these speakers for music as part of my bedroom system, not for home theater. The treble was harsh metallic and grainy. Mids were pretty good. Bass fair.
Listener fatigue sets in rapidly. They were driven by an HK AVR30, a stereophile recommended receiver from 1994-1995. They were replaced by a pair of Sound Dynamics 300TI. A much sweeter better sounding speaker.

These sound better to me for video than the much more expensive NHTs that were designed for video! Of course, they are used with a good subwoofer.

I've had five Superones in my hometheater for a year now. Are they the ultimate giant killer? No. But at $350 a pair, they are better than you might expect. Can play loud without much strain, good clarity, exellent soundstage, reasonably tight bass.Build quality was good on my five examples, not great. Anyway, I give it a solid eight; if i could bi-wire em' I'd be a lot happer with them. But I love the slightly siblant NHY sound. I'm upgrading to VT1.2's next year.
