Unit has worked well for me as a DVD player and have used the Karaoke functions successfully once (I'm not a big Karaoke fan, this unit actually belongs to the parents).

HOWEVER! The remote sucks big time. I own a Sony DVD-S3000, one of the first generation of DVD players, and the remote is way superior. I've had a tough time hunting down features on the remote...

I also recall the Karaoke features being a bit tricky to use.

Good picture quality and sound. It doesn't last long. A flaw in it's laser pickup. Broken in 1 year. Not worth it for the price. Can't play CD-R and CDRWs.

Panasonic DVD-K510
I purchased the above unit on March 16, 1999. I already know up front that I am not covered under any warranty. The unit works fine as a DVD movie player. However, I shelled out the extra money for this particular unit primarily for its' much-advertised Karaoke functionality. To date, however, I've yet to see any karaoke use from this machine. It's never worked as a karaoke player.

My problem, specifically, is this: The player simply will not interpret any disc as a Karaoke disc and consequently, none of the Karaoke functioanlity is activated. The player interprets the CDG karoke discs as regular audio CD's and the new format DVD-Karoke disc as a DVD movie. I've tried every switch, every button..re-checked all the connectons, every troubleshooting measure possible and nothing will activate the Karaoke functions. Incidentally, not even the brand new microphone works. (It did work on another player).

I can pull up the karaoke menus, but none of the functions I engage, on or off, has any effect on the sound or visuals of the disc. Once again, it's as if the K510D cannot interpret or acknowledge any disc as a Karaoke disc and as a result, the karaoke functionality is non-existant.

Am I missing something obvious here? There's nothing in the owner's manual that I haven't tried (including the attenuator switch). has anyone else had similar problems? I can't help feeling there's some "quick-kill" solution. Please let me know what to do. I'd like this unit to "earn" its price tag.

Thanks for any help, referral, or assitance you may offer.

I owned the the A-300 and loved this unit. The Karaoke features of the K-510 are great (much better than the 300 and rivaling a dedicated karaoke machine). The picture and sound are excellent. I do miss the AC-3 decoder but the DTS output makes up for it. Now I need to get the technics AC-3/DTS decoder. I paid $600 delivered.
