Been great so far, audio/video quality, ease of use etc... am worried after reading about Panasonic picture problems (after few months), which it seems may have leaked into Denon models too. But after 4 mths, haven't once had any issues.

Comparing with pioneer dvd dv-5, it produces much better sound quality.

I like the way it looks but have found many DVDs get lots of errors in the middle of a movie. At first I suspected the disks that I was renting were
damaged. Finally, I took a disk that was failing in chapter 6 to a store
and tried to play it there, it worked almost flawlessly (there were some errors but they were very minor compared to the total loss of picture I was getting). I even found another DVD-2500 at the store and it worked fine on that one too! I brought it home and agin it failed on mine. My guess is that the laser is out of alignment. Fortuneately I am barely within the 30 return window so I will return it. At the store I talked with a sales rep who claimed that Panasonic makes this model for Denon and throws in two extra features for Denon (db volume control and picture fine/sharp control). He said the Panisonic DVD-A120 was the same except for those two features. He suggested if I only care about picture quality and not features such as skipping around and slow motion I should go with the Pioneer line.

Bottom line, Denon has QA problems.

I have now had this dvd player for about 3 months. I love it. The video is consistently very very clean. Audio quality is superb. I have never had a problem with over 30 dvds that I have played. DTS is no exception.

My only concern is that it doesn't seem very popular here in the USA. This is a very nice player and should be considered.

I test drove this player against the toshiba3109 - it won hands down in picture quality. Sound quality was no comparison either. Also, it doesn't t sound like a thrashing mashine when the door opens and closes like the toshiba did.

Try it. You will like it as much as units that cost a lot more.

Now, lets go to a philips pronto so that I don't have to use this darned remote.

I bought the DVD-2500 to replace the Panasonic A-330 about
2 weeks ago. The audio is definately better than the A-330.
The startup is also quicker. Build quality is excellent. The
only drawback is that, like the A-330, it cannot play back CD-R.
I will test the DTS effect after connecting it with the newly
bought Denon AVC-A1D.

This is an update to my initial review below (or above, depending...) I am the reviewer with the Sherwood Newcastle AVP-9080.... I have now had this player for a little over a month (and out of my 30 day return window!) and while the pictures and sounds are great, ease of use and set up are first rate, and the list of features are more than adequate, this player now loses points because it has has some big troubles playing some discs.

For 3 or 4 weeks, I have watched some lengthy movies such as The Deer Hunter
and Dances With Wolves, not to mention Top Gun, Austin Powers, The Graduate,
etc. A wide range of films in single layer, dual layer, etc. NO problems with any of them and I watched some of them in a row.... Well, recently I bought The Road Warrior and The Hunt For Red Octber, played them back to back and about 45 minutes into THFRO, the picture was not able to decode, sound went awry etc. I "rewound", fast forwarded etc. but the disk was garbled at the same spot. I turned it off and came back a few hours later, started at the same point and it played flawlessly through the rest of the movie.

A few days later I tried it and the disc played fine. Later I bought The Blues Brothers and this time the disc screwed up about an hour in, yet a day or two later I popped it back in and it played fine to the end of the movie. This is definitely a problem with the player as it is unlikely that two brand new discs are at fault (though I don't deny it is possible). I have a few other movies to watch and I am pretty sure this problem will continue.

So this unit will now go back to the dealer for repair and since this is not a problem that is definitely repeatable, I envision a big hassle coming. This unit was quite remarkable at the start but is quickly losing points. Especially after spending $700!

This unit is great. I already have the Sherwood Newcastle AVP-9080 so I bought the DVD-2500 instead of the other Denon offerings (which include DTS etc) so I really only need a player rather than a player/processor. Anyway, this unit is very good. The pictures are great compared to my brother's Sony and my other friend's DVD players. The only faults are a remote with very small buttons that have to be looked at to be used. The unit switches off after a period of non-use and that is good for the forgetful. The audio out of it is a bit on the "full" side and is somewhat muddy compared to my Adcom GCD-700 (though it has the same Burr-Brown D/A converters) but it DOES play a couple of CDs that the
Adcom has trouble playing....

The unit does not play a wide range of CD formats, but I DID buy it specifically for DVDs so what do I care, huh? Anyway, I think this unit performs very well and the only reason I did not give it a 10 was because I am sure every unit has room for improvement.

Have listened and watched this unit flawlessly for the past week. I am very happy with its performance. Might get the same performance from a lower priced unit but, I am not going to go looking for a better unit.

Wish that the remote was better. Thats all. But, since I will be programming the functions into a higher level remote anyhow, it doesn't seem to matter

This is a follow up to my earlier votes on this unit (I am the one who brought the unit back to the dealer outside of the 30 day return window because the player was garbling the picture...) Anyway, I got it back from the dealer who sent the player into their own repair shop (The Good Guys) and they did a good job. They replaced the entire pickup unit (must be somewhat modular) and it seems to work fine now. The biggest problem I have with this is that the player is now repaired yet I paid full price for a "broken" unit! At least it seems to work flawlessly now and the picture and sound are great. I hope this lasts....
