Great movie sound. Has a little unwanted noise but, it can be overlooked with all the great features and performance. Cool blue lights.

I am selling my brand new, used for 2 months SF-DX6 (SA-AX6 plus SHAC-500D Decoder)

Email me with your offer, randy@lotuselan.com

Selling for one reason and one reason only- my girlfriend wants Sony. Not me! I love Technics... Anyway, I'm reasonable and the unit is pristine.

Have had this receiver/decoder combo for about a month. The sound quality, especially with a powered subwoofer, is truly astonishing. Very convenient controls on the front of the units. However, the remote control is very basic. Nevertheless, considering the price ($700 MSRP, but can be had in the $450-500 range), which is the lowest among the DD/DTS receivers, I don't consider that a big disadvantage. Overall, this unit gives the biggest bang for the buck. Also, previous models of Technics receivers have been top-rated by Consumers Reports for their performance and repair history. I am not giving it a 10 because it does't come as a single unit, thus necessitating some extra wiring, a minor inconvenience.

I resently purchased this reciever/decoder from Uncle's Stereo for $399. Of the comparably priced models with DTS, which is only the Sony 925, the Technics ax-6 sounded more natural and experienced almost no distortion at higher volumes. Additionally, the technics has the capability to power a passive subwoofer. The only problem I have experienced with this reciever is the previously mentioned problem with the remote. This reciever, combined with a new Energy Take-5 speaker system, has allowed me to have beautiful sound at a bargain price and limited amount of space.

I have been very satisified with this unit combination. I did not give it a 10 because I think it would be more convienent if it were one unit. Has been performing well for me the past two months.

This is a good introduction receiver decoder combo. But there are things that were very stupidly thought out. Like how can annoying is it that even though the receiver and decoder is a combo, you have to use both remotes? Also with just a little bit of testing you'll see that the 6-channel Input has a really high noise level. I wouldn't ever get this combo. I credit Technics for using a Analog Signal Processor versus the norm of Digital. Although the ASP throws away all the advantages of Digital Processing. The ASP was chosen over the DSP simply because of $$$$$$$. The SHAC500D is a great processor for the price, but the Dolby Digital processing is horrible compared to my Yamaha. Although listening to the DTS Music Demo. Disc sounded increadible through the Yamaha.

Initially I was going to give this receiver a rating of three. After careful thought I am going to give it a five. I was going to give it a three based on how bad (bad as it no good, not bad as in BAD!) it sounded in stereo mode. In Dobly Prologic and Dolby Digital it sounded excellent. Build quality is excellent as with most Technics products. Price is also excellent, it can be had for $470 plus a $100 rebate.

The SA-AX6 receiver has plenty of power in 6 channels, It sound a lot better than my Sony STR-DE1015G. Clear cut sound on all channels (In D-Digitals mode). In Dts mode, you have to listen to believe, all real theater sound (can not compair Dts mode with Sony). The decoder is very hot at bottom all the time (Sony SDP-800 is very hot on top).Receiver lacks of video and audio selector, it so basic that you can not do anything else if you select 5.1 inputs, the video input will be DVD. If you have more than 1 device that use S-VHS and 5.1 at the same time (bad luck, I have laser disk player and DVD player)you have to manual reconnect video or buy S-VHS A/V Selector(JVC has 2 remote models). The remote control is too bad (Power on/off must be in tunner mode first), can not learn any thing (only preset code for TV,VCR). I can not give this system more than 6 because it lack of features which is easy found on Sony receiver, it is not a cheap one ($487.96 ship to your door from Inet shopping), because you must by an A/V selector and a remote control that will jack up the price .

For those of you interested in this receiver, I just saw the receiver/decoder package listed for $402 at Advanced Video Systems
. What a steal at that price!
I wish I had waited a little longer.
