I had a dennon avr 3300 but it made an unpleasent humming sound (the reciever it self) I got an other one but it did the same. So I changed it for the Rotel. I did sound awful at first. Made me very unhappy. But after a few hours the sound wasn't so bad anymore and now after a few days it sounds realy great. The music seems three dementional. Before with my onkio I always listend to musia in surround without the center speaker. But this one sounds so great in stereo! No need at all for surround processing the sound envelops me anyway. The controls are a lot less compared to the denon and onkio and I'm not very happy with the remote. But the sound is marvelous.

I couldn't believe the imaging and detail in both stereo and DD. And for the money this reciever is packed with features. If your'e not interested in Component inputs then this is definitely a receiver worth listening to.

For a month I patiently waited to hear this receiver. Having read as much as I could find, I thought this would be THE ONE. I psyched myself and my wife into believing that this thing should beat the sox off of any receiver we had auditioned so far (Denon, HK, Marantz)

Well, it sucked. I mean, I couldn't believe how bad it sounded compared to the other receivers this store sold. The store had only had it for a few days, and perhaps they just hadn't figured out the right settings to use, etc., but it sounded very muddy.

I know what you're thinking: The people at the store were idiots. Actually, it was a very nice store that sells equipment selling for tens of thousands of dollars, staffed with a knowledgeable staff. The room I auditioned the piece in was well designed, with tube traps in the corners, etc.

The Rotel was a great dissapointment. I would have rated it much lower but for the fact that I still can't believe my ears. Perhaps this was a bad unit? Perhaps a different set of speakers would help... Maybe the receiver would sound different in a room that was more "live" - with hardwood floors and the like.

While there I used the same room, same speakers, to audition the Pioneer Elite (I forget the model number, slightly more expensive than the Rotel) and, despite the fact that I couldn't afford it, the B&K AVR202.

WOW! both units sounded much better than the Rotel. The difference was truly amazing. The Pioneer (never thought I'd say anything good about this company after hearing their low end stuff) sounded fantastic. HOWEVER, when they lugged in the B&K from another room on a whim and plugged the speakers into the back - I was in heaven. I'd never heard a better sounding receiver in my life. It blew the Rotel out of the water and severely humbled the Pioneer.

I'm saving now for the B&K. It's worth the wait.

Great unit. Best sounding in this price class. It has s-video switching which is a great feature. The audio quality for music is simply stunning, very clear and precise warm sound. Very detailed as well. It would have been a ten if not for the bugs that have been worked out. I have not even been able to get the volume up to half way with it not being too loud! No distortion or clipping. Home Theater sound is the best I have heard, the rear channels are more present and precise in this model than any other receiver I tested (HK, Denon, Yamaha).
